  1. Yep. As they used to say "rots your brain, and leads to harder drugs."
  2. @Andy95W I was wondering if the scoop (sans mount, hinges, etc.) would be falling out all the time. Looks like the storm window latch may be holding yours in place?
  3. ^^^THIS^^^ @M20GforMe this is the bottom line. Personal experience and reading this forum has taught me that an airplane for sale that does NOT have deferred maintenance is a rare bird. Americans, or the pilot community, or maybe just Mooney people want "cheap" above all else, and nobody wants to spend money on an airplane that has fallen into disuse. You have received a ton of advice here mostly suggesting that you got screwed on the sale, and that you continue to get screwed by your shop. I'll swim upstream and say that a quick review of the estimate did not look wildly out of line to me. The hourly shop rate is not bad for your part of the country -- check out the hourly rate for a plumber. Sounds like they looked at everything, found a ton of discrepancies, and estimated the time and materials to fix everything. If I were in your shoes, I would work with this shop to understand what needs to be fixed to get your annual signed off and what can be deferred a year. The cost is brutal, but if you burn this bridge now, you may come to regret it later. Good shops are hard to find. Personal relationships are everything.
  4. I use this Caulk-Savers and this Remove-Before-Flight There may be better solutions, but this is "okay". I cut most of the long spike off.
  5. This may be it https://www.arcticaircooler.com/
  6. I vaguely remember a topic from a few years ago that said some part of the toggle comes off and is replaced by the wheel. This may be what I'm remembering https://mooneyspace.com/topic/28813-gear-switch-replacement/ And here is the part about removing the tip https://mooneyspace.com/topic/50410-anyone-have-the-part-number-for-gear-down-actuator-switch-1976-f/
  7. Hard to find -- only used on the Mooney Ovation. You will probably only get them through an MSC. Good luck.
  8. Joe, something happened to your comment. All I see is a previous post.
  9. I think the SID is attached above.
  10. Should be in your installation document. Mine says: Center of gravity (M20C, M20E) . . . . . 66.0 inches Center of gravity (M20F thru M20K) . . . 71.0 inches
  11. Primary side of the contactor?
  12. I was thinking the same about TWA. I never worried too much about domestic flights, but the food and service on international flights would rival any restaurant. Sometimes I had to tell them I wasn't interested in the additional courses.
  13. I had a similar thought. I can't imagine anybody at an FBO having sophisticated equipment -- never mind knowing how to use it.
  14. Wow, that is a clean hangar! And, I like that paint scheme too. If I got mine resprayed, I would probably go back with something very near factory.
  15. All factory parts are purchased through Mooney Service Centers (MSCs). There is a list at https://mooney.com/contact-2/#:~:text=MOONEY SERVICE CENTERS Also, The Mooney Flyer (TMF) has a slightly out-of-date document at https://themooneyflyer.com/pdf/MooneyServiceCenters.pdf
  16. Maxwell says separating the wing is WAY harder than yanking the tail.
  17. As an example, my trim servo is a KS-179 065-0052-14. I see one at BAS including mounting bracket. If it came out of something other than a Mooney, can my mechanic remove the bracket it's attached to, and install in my Mooney using my old bracket?
  18. I think there are well over 1,000 airframe type certs. Testing every combination means that most will never be tested.
  19. Just looked at my account in FF, and Performance Plus is knocking on the door of $400.
  20. My recollection (that phrase almost makes me laugh) is that prices go up every year regardless of ownership.
  21. I'm always surprised when I read ". . . can't be xxx part because it was new/overhauled a few hours ago". New(ish) stuff makes me more suspicious -- not less.
