  1. 1-5 hour flights, one way, is my normal. I'm out of no-where Enterprise, AL so I like to "get out", mostly I fly to: Newnan, Ga, Richmond, Va, Savannah, Ga, St Simons, Ga (BBQ!), Foothills (I'm an @AGL Aviation only maintenance snob haha).
  2. shameless plug? I have a https://www.appareo.com/aviation/stratus-product-line/stratus-power-usb-charger/ listed on ebay. (new in box) PM me and I can sell direct to you.
  3. While often true, think about the larger error build up as you go back in chalks of a formation or even cars. Similar to the traffic wave effect or ghost traffic on highways. The reactions and timing of the others result in larger actions needing to be taken the further back you go.
  4. I've never had any issue reading the EDM, sun from any angle. The food would probably get warm faster is my only guess.
  5. Ignore the food, but right side works well for me.
  6. I'll check my panel maybe my copilot kicked something, the noise happened all of a sudden during my descent though. Also I have the plane power 10-1051 / SAL12-70 Alternator.
  7. It's not much cheaper turning the old one in VA buying new. I figure I'll get a new one and take the old one apart to fix or at least learn how it's put together.
  8. Alright MS'ers I just wanted to confirm my findings before dropping .5+ AMUs. Yesterday as I started my decent into KNEW I started to get a loud whine through my headset. I landed at KNEW and upon start up and departure the same noise was again present. Other info: Noise changed with RPM, but always present. EDM900 showed volts fluctuating 13.3-13.9 (usually steady at 13.9-14.0 in flight). Noise stops when ALT breaker is pulled. My thoughts: Alternator diode has failed, replace alternator before it totally fails to provide electrical power. Thanks for any insight. Jon.
  9. I'll second Balvennie, though I'm partial to the Caribbean cask.
  10. Looks like there are 18 people on this thread interested. MATH: that's ~$22.22 each to get us to $400. I just put $25 down.
  11. I'll throw my name into the hat too. With a $400 drawing, what do we think the per product is likely to be?
  12. I've noticed, without ever consciously thinking about it, after landing I always reset trim to t/o and upon start up, flight control check and before take off I check the trim/flaps. Now to clean the seat tracks out! Very sad accident, hopefully we learn what happened though.
  13. Now that we've shown there is a demand, the price is going to go UP!
  14. They wrote me a month or 2 ago, their guy who used to make them is retiring or something. They said they were seeking a new machine shop/"guy" to make them. No word on timeline.
  15. YUP! All is well now with fine wires on the surefly side. I think factory gap is less than ideal for the surefly side, it produces alot stronger spark gapped wider you may have 0 issues with massives.
  16. This was my brother's Brigade Commander in the reserves apparently. Sad news starting the new year.
  17. I have the scimitar 2 blade: above 24" 2350-2550 restricted. I don't think the edm can correlate mp to different rpm restrictions so it just always has the 2350-2550 arc.
  18. I swear it was right side up when I posted! Haha who's the inverter around here?
  19. Ok I'm sure plenty of people have gone faster, but for a Blackhawk driver turned Mooney pilot... Especially for a NA M20E I was moving! Great tailwind to see family! Also fine wire plugs are a near must with a surefly, problem fixed!
  20. 9 year revival: I have an M-20 seperator installed on my Mooney and I have started running an engine saver on it. After speaking with them I just want to make sure I'm realizing the benefits of pumping dry air into the engine. Does the M-20 have a one-way flap/valve, which would prevent the pumping of the dry air into the case like mentioned in the below response? " For the most part our unit should blow right through the separator when plugged into the breather hose. The only issue I have heard of is the possibility of a one way valve or flap between the separator and engine. Most of the time there is just a screen between the two and our unit will push air right through. If you are putting the air into the oil fill you may want to plug the breather line. Our unit works by filling the engine with dry air and then maintaining a slight internal pressure to keep the outside air from coming back in. If it is open from the engine out the breather there is a good chance the air is escaping out the breather and not keeping the engine filled as it should. " Apparently that email on the M20 site no longer works.
  21. Obtain: CMEL add on ATP CRJ TYPE rating Switch from Army pilot to Skywest pilot. Lots of goals and moves in 2020! Oh and fly my E to the Keys, Bahamas, and hopefully OSHKOSH.
