  1. @DXB I'll be interested to hear if your BY plugs give you any issues. So far I was only able to go up for 20 mins the other day and did a full power climb to 8500. Everything seems to be fine since switching to larger gapped fine wires for the surefly side.
  2. Well runup complete all went well so far, but that was the same story coming out of falcon field on Sunday. Full power climb to 8k+ tomorrow to fully check everything. I will hopefully be able to go LoP and do a lean in-flight check.
  3. I think it's the 37BY plugs with the small gap and surefly, perfect storm maybe? Surefly recommended a larger gap .036 and also fine wire plugs. I'm getting the normal 38BE's for the Mag side and 4x 38S fine wires in tomorrow. I'll hopefully report back tomorrow or thurday.
  4. It took 15 mins. After PLing at falcon field the plugs were cleaned and tested well. I took off with GREAT power and at 6500' enroute to 8000' I lost my #3 plug on the surefly side again. I'm switching to the massive 38s for my magneto and going to try running 4 fine wire on my surefly side. The worst plug you saw was from the top of 4.
  5. Yea I had brand new 37BYs, gapped to .019 and the surefly's stronger spark smoked them (we/they think) This is atleast the primary theory, I'm changing the surefly plugs to fine wires and .036 gap and will see if I get any more issues. I lost 2 plugs in flight on the surefly side within 15 mins.
  6. @DXB what plugs are you running and do you know their gap by chance?
  7. Picking up my newly equip'd E this Sunday, give me till ~June for a 100hr report. Will report on my flight from KMRN to KEDN shortly though.
  8. I bought my E in August, annual required in November. It had been maintained by a MSC for the last 10+ years so I elected to just check some major items. They checked compressions, overall engine condition (very clean!), and pulled a few panels for pictures with proof of no corrosion. That's all I paid for, the annual wasn't due and their price was alot higher (West coast shop). My planes going through it's annual now I'm adding an EI and the major/only issue was the exhaust needed overhauled. Depending on the maintenance records etc I'd say just wait till the next annual time to do the annual, that gives you time to fly some and consider what you want to upgrade or you feel needs attention.
  9. I wouldn't limit yourself to just the C. Search C-F's and prioritize what equipment, hours, history, and of course price to find the best one for sale. I'm partial to E's over C's for the IO, but that's really a personal preference.
  10. OPPS Thread drift. Bob I sure did: Hopefully I can give a decent review of the Surefly on my flight back to Rucker, probably early December.
  11. No issues with that.
  12. On my plane, I think
  13. Bob do you think the spec would be the same for my '64 E's controls? I believe mine are still original... we'll call them vintage.
  14. When the level is calibrated to the ground the panel reads 0 the seam above the battery compartment reads -4.
  15. Ok apparently its 4 degree tilt. Do I need to determine +- 4 degrees not sure which way would be minus.
  16. So place it along this seam?
  17. Delta airlines? I hated geometry These were the different settings on each device. Aspen is dead solid. So I should calibrate my phone on the ground, on a flat surface, then go fly a straight and level path and measure the tilt my phones level picks up during level flight?
  18. So the KI300 issue I've been having may be related to having a tilted panel. I've been reading some threads, but I'm confused on exactly how I can determine the angle. Would calibrating a tilt app on my phone while its laying on the ground, then placing it up against the panel be accurate? or is this stuff determined in flight or on jacks? BK is going to mechanically re-calibrate a new KI300 to account for a 4 degree tilt (that was the setting bias my last one had in it) to eliminate the error, but I wanted to first make sure thats the degree of error I need. Thanks for the help. Jon.
  19. You can get a credit for "loyalty" if you reach out to skytec and order through them, returning the old starter.
  20. Update. Bendix King replaced my unit under warranty. They sent me a brand new unit that they tested extensively before sending it out to me. They also paid the avionics shop for their time swapping it. So far, 1.3 hours on it, it has not drifted off yet. Great customer service!
  21. Bob, I'm not opposed to, how old/hours on it? I already bought the wrong Donaldson so I may just run up to Falcon field and swap it out for the challenger. Is the challenger a direct replacement for the bracket style? For ram air, I usually don't cruise with it open for the concern of even at 5-8k there may be STUFF in the air? I could just me making this up in my head, should I run Ram open unless going through cloud/rain?
  22. But it's an oily mess. Have there been no improvements over this? Thanks for the replies. The good news is the bracket is much cheaper, I guess.
  23. Looking for some help getting the right airfilter for my '64 E with ARI cowl mod. The airfilter slot is larger than the Donaldson: pn p107172 which is supposed to fit this year Mooney. Maybe I need the J filter?
  24. @ArtVandelay bought it that way shows all the same stuff doesn't it?
  25. We're doing panel pictures? I like the Aspen over 2x G5s and while I've learned to appreciate my 650 I prefer the avidyne systems. The EDM 900 is great I consider it a must. I had g2 insight and it did it's jobs well, but when gauges start needing O/H'd you're better served going to the EDM.
