  1. Have you called Griggs? http://www.griggsaircraft.com
  2. My airplane registration arrived today in the mail for my newly purchased F. I didn't expect the FAA would deliver it on a golden chariot with trumpets heralding the arrival but they didn't even bother to put it in an envelope. I just thought it was funny. It took almost a month, so right on their advertised timeline and the even sent me back the bill of sale I used as proof of purchase. Two days earlier and in an envelope. :-)
  3. Just my musings but it seems like an awful lot of engine for very modest pay off in speed.
  4. I have been playing with "Aviation W&B" from the Apple App store. It has a template for the F that was easily adjustable for my 74.
  5. I'm faithfully holding up the center of the bell curve at 50 and hoping to ride down the other side to the very end. Barring any of my multitude of bad habits or behaviors getting the better of me.
  6. Very nice looking airplane. In the immortal words of Tom Petty, The waiting is the hardest part.
  7. Hmm, the insides of that thing make it look like a one and done kind of assembly.
  8. I would love to figure out how to get ours into the plane but if he or his sister ever jumped into the baggage area we would go down tail first very quickly.
  9. I also sold my airplane in 2002 and hadn't flown at all until a few weeks ago. Life got in the way for a few years.
  10. Take lots of pictures.
  11. Well that is good news. I had feared that it was expensive or hard to get hold of. :-)
  12. Turtle did you ever get this figured out? I'm curious as to how it is supposed to work.
  13. Hi John, I am out of Rutland. If you ever happen to be up this way I would love to pick your brain over lunch.
  14. We used to do this often. Just call them up when you are 10 out and ask for the low pass. If they have something going on they will tell you and wave you off or they will give you min alt and you just fly runway heading.
  15. Have you done any stalls yet? I remember knowing for certain that I was going to die right then and there. Now they are kind of fun. I found that the uncomfortable feeling goes away with repetition and practice. I just started flying a Mooney and everything feels very new all over again.
  16. Yes we discussed pricing for all of the individual components. In airplane speak it was all quite reasonable.
  17. Spoke with Brittain about the knob. The answer to the question is that it is not supposed to move in or out at all. Time to remove it and send it in for a rebuild. Not the answer I was hoping for but it is an answer so now I know.
  18. Carusoam, Thanks for the link. It still leaves me wondering what the heck the in and out positions do.
  19. Slightly off topic. My TC100 has a roll knob on the bottom left. It seems to have two positions, pushed in and pulled out. Can someone tell me what they are for?
  20. I flew it for the first time this morning. Pretty amazing. It was a total first for me as it was my first time in a Mooney and the first time flying it.
  21. For short periods of time it would work fine but most blower engines don't have much cooling fin on the heads and tend to overheat very quickly in summer weather. That said having the electric start and the multiple speeds forward and reverse would be great. A little fab work and you are in like flynn.
  22. The F that I just purchased was also in the MAPA Log mag. I found the magazine and the proof sheet from the photo shoot in the documentation given to me by the previous owner. Kind of neat.
  23. Welcome, I am new around here as well and I have found everyone to be quite cheery and helpful. What part of Vermont are you from. I am located on the southern end of Lake Champlain. Tony
  24. The panel is actually lexan and lights the instruments and switches like the fibre optic ones do now just back in 1980 something.
  25. My wife has been down this road before with me and airplanes. She was actually the one who gave it a name but it was Vicky said with a petulant sneer on her face. I thought that sounded a bit tawdry and went with Victoria but who am I kidding. It is a 1974 and is in pretty good shape. The engine is low time, the interior is about a 6 and the paint is around a 7. It has several speed mods on it. nose fairing, gap seals, wing roots, single piece belly. The avionics are a bit dated but I am ok with steam gauges so I can work with what I have for a while. We plan on using it as a launch platform for further adventure and as a way to get warmer in one tank of fuel during the winter months and cooler in the summers. I am going to just fly it for the first year or so until I get past the early ownership spend that always seems to happen.
