  1. First time to cross The Lazy River in 2019 on my way to KC. Even slow and LOP it never gets old.
  2. I changed to fine wire plugs about two weeks ago. Wow! Hot starts require one or two blades instead of 15 to 20. LOP feels better too. Old massive appear to have been there “for a while or so”. I now start and taxi my plane to/from fueling instead of pushing and pulling. Nice!
  3. A thought experiment... If I remember the figures correctly, the space shuttle saved about 400 pounds when they stopped painting the external tank. I think that American plans are also lighter because of no-paint. My brain wanders to “how much paint was sprayed on the surface during each coat” - meaning “how much did ‘the guy’ spraying actually go through with each coat? Could he have done one coat with about 1/3 of a cup of paint?”
  4. I need to a little time on this (I have a good, but older model collector). I think that the location of the flight should be able to be plotted in google maps with "points on the flight path" clickable to show desired data at that time and location. If/when I jig something up, I'll share it.
  5. Discovery! I'm not sure what trend(s) this will show, but I agree with M016576... a blip in a JPI graph over a certain terrain might remind you "oh, that is when I pulled the power waaaaay back because of the mountain vorticies" or something similar
  6. As I was downloading data from the EDM today and trying to think of a better way to visualize the data (and trends), my brain sidestepped to the possibility of merging FlightAware (or CloudAhoy) data with the engine data - I'm not 100% sure that it would provide anything of real value, but it might be interesting. Has anyone seen/heard about this being done?
  7. Tuscaloosa is ok. It’s the local football team which requires a quick exit. Boiler Up!
  8. An awesome tailwind from Tuscaloosa to Cincinnati yesterday. Nice to see 200 mph over the ground in an E. I also continue to be floored with how many more weather tools there are since learning to fly and even over the last year.
  9. As I look at the POH and see the 50 year old now-some-what-theoretical air speeds, I wonder: If my real word airspeeds don’t match my POH airspeeds, how sure can I be that my best glide speed is accurate (and am I sure that is the number to multiply by 1.32). I really like the Carson speed theory, but I bumped upon the possible problem of the accuracy of best glide as I calculated my numbers this morning.
  10. Some more data points in case anyone is searching. I used a 7/16 wrench to completely remove the drain plug, push the brakes and let the "fluid" (gooey-mess) drain. After about an hour or so of draining, the goo was purged and the good fluid flowed out. I separated the plug from the bleed valve (1/4" wrench) and made sure the goo was out of the bleeder holes. I then used about a fully filled mini-tin-can, two hoses (one inside the other to transition from the can to the bleed valve nipple) and counted pumps for each side. After three or four counts/pumps to 25 (and resetting the bleed valve to test) the brakes came back (win!). Here are some pictures.
  11. I’d like the two wing servos if still available. Sending PM. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
  12. From their website, it looks like they're coming back! http://www.brittainautopilots.com
  13. Fred_2O, where did you have the AP installed? I have a recently yellow tagged controller and PC that worked until the last 8 months where it slowed down and then stopped it’s control.
  14. When I’m concerned about high temps, I track my JPI on Cylinder 3 and then lean over to the analogue needle to verify the real temp of Cyl 3 when JPI 3 is over 400. It’s not eloquent or pretty. I do find some peace of mind when I download and graph the data. There is a lot to be said for consistently.
  15. I had a similar thing in my E. . See M20E High CHT https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink?share_fid=55491&share_tid=22783&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Emooneyspace%2Ecom%2Findex%2Ephp%3F%2Ftopic%2F22783-M20E-High-CHT&share_type=t Hope that helps.
  16. I usually pull my E’s gear up at 80-85 mph. I’ve waited until 110mph before and I had to do the mini-dip-dive. It’s a huge difference. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  17. It’s is hard to read this thread after the initial post. I might be wrong, but I’m guessing that the OP posted to share something cool and unique. That is a darn good looking plane. Inside and out. I’m a bit jealous of the plane and the flight. Well done! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
  18. You might consider Grimes Urbana I74. A restaurant on the field and pretty darn good pie à la mode. http://www.urbanaohio.com/grimes-field/airport-cafe.html. Fuel was ‘green’ on ForeFlight.
  19. How’s the clearance Clarence?
  20. I was slightly afraid that both of these would be in your response. I’ll update the thread when I attack it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
  21. I’m curious how you ended up attacking this - tape on the rod or some swearing and removing the servo. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
  22. Yes! Might have been three fuel stops in the 150. And climbing to 9500’ in the 150? Maybe in a thunderstorm. Headed there again tomorrow via Mooney so that I don’t have to fly KCI to CVG via BWI thru midnight.
  23. Flew against a big headwind to KC on Monday (LOP and stretched it out for the first three hours, then 2500/25 to get Missouri under the belly quickly). I was able to leave KC on the same day (instead of spending the night - Win!) and able to head to Marion, Ind to see family. Spent the night in Indiana. The next evening, I picked my way through some rain from Marion back into Cincinnati Lunken. Just another confirmation that Mooney's are time machines! Photo of KC and somewhere over Indiana.
  24. You statistic likely comment is proving to be true. Seals and servos are now more and more likely. Now I need to create a logical plan of attack - perhaps the servos in the tail first as they're easier to get to.
  25. I did try to peer into the wall... and after being able to see just a little I took the panel off and began looking at the hose - it was then that I realized/fount out that there is another T... and it goes right to a filter - hence the inability to keep a vacuum. On the other line, I also noted that/saw that a vacuum line was disconnected. It does make a little more sense that the Polyflex line doesn't have a hole in it. Learning more about the plane, so I got that going for me.
