  1. Fly-in breakfast New Philedelphia, OH (KPHD) tomorrow morning. Grew up going to Sunday morning flight breakfasts with my dad in the '50's. Now they are rare. Seems Saturday is the day of choice for such events for some reason. Doesn't fit my lifestyle or nostalgia. Can't wait for that plate of bad pancakes and the happy memories.
  2. At NWA there was a cabin logbook in which cabin items were griped by the Lead Flight Attendant. One memorable write-up noting that the call chime used by the cockpit to get the f/a's attention was unreliable and low volume read "Captain's dong is soft and sometimes doesn't work at all." I believe it was repaired.
  3. At the risk of stating the obvious, I hope all who are dealing with debris in the relief valve are thoroughly checking for metal in all the screens and filters. My similar experience was on an IO-470D which had a broken ring and made metal resulting in a tear down inspection.
  4. Sadly, I must withdraw my endorsement of ProAv, New Philadelphia, OH.
  5. Unable to post reply from iPad. No amount of tapping works. Nor could I make this post. Using droid phone. Can navigate sight with iPad and updated my profile with it as well. (Mooneyspace had given me a gender change but I'm back to being one of the guys now. NC here I come.)
  6. WOT after takeoff through climb was a concept Mooney was trying to instill 50 years ago. Amazingly, the power of the OWT (old wive's tale) remains strong. Yes, full throttle and back the rpm off of redline and you're good to go. It's not turbocharged. Nothing bad can happen.
  7. Do they do sweatshirts?
  8. Yes they do, and wind. Not exactly tornado alley, but it only takes one good storm. Spent almost 20 years there and loved it. (But St. Paul is the real place to be.)
  9. When transitioning to the manual gear Mooney, I suggest the trainee use a 1-2-3 method, gear-prop-flaps. Once gear is up, hand goes to flap control. When flaps are selected up, hand to the prop control to back off rpm's a bit (2500). This triplet approach is to guard against those moments of self-congratulation after successfully wrestling with the Johnson bar causing an interruption in the flow of events and leaving the flaps down. In a routine departure profile, these 3 events occur fairly quickly. Throw in high gross weight, obstacles, or whatever, the process slows down to allow for acceleration and altitude.
  10. ProAv, New Philedelphia, OH (KPHD).
  11. When Mooney started equipping the M20's with "lateral stability augmentation" (PC) in 1965, they gave out big red buttons (3"?) that announced "I've got PC". Having given a few hundred hours of dual in Moonies and being a geeky Iowa farm boy, I wore mine proudly when I resumed my education pursuits at Purdue Univ in 1965. Yessir, I was something! I've looked through all my junk and the offerings on eBay and can't find an example of such in existence. Maybe that's a good thing, but does anyone have one?
  12. Maybe throw in a tote bag or coffee mug? (It's NPR pledge week.)
  13. It's probably a very lame excuse, but even after hanging around MS for 6 months the donation component wasn't intuitively obvious. If there was a "welcome aboard" message explaining it all, it was probably missed in the euphoria of being a new Mooney owner. Additionally, it is not hard to conflate this group with the MAPA organization, which grabs your funds up front. (And I still haven't gotten them to respond to my quest regarding being unable to log in.) At any rate, I ponied up. Thanks. It's a fun ride.
  14. Getting ready to do the feathers on a Christen Eagle. Wish I could find such a shortcut.
  15. But it's also fun! Living in Ohio, I had the luxury of commuting to my airline job in DTW in my Cessna 310F (40 min flight vs 3 hr drive, sitting reserve at home, etc.). After driving my 747-400 to the orient and back I would always find myself on the return leg getting excited because I was about to get to fly my airplane! I sometimes worried about myself.
  16. In 50+ years of assisted annuals, I've never seen a wheel disassembled for inspection.
  17. Years ago I redid a Bonanza instrument panel and gave it a laminate overlay (Formica-like). Sounds weird, but I must have gotten the inspiration somewhere. Perhaps there is a similar product that would be similar to what you are trying for. But I think I would prefer plain paint.
  18. United had a similar program in the '60's. The difference being they only had to get a candidate to 200 hrs and a Commercial/Instrument. Don't know how many pilots they turned out that way.
  19. Doubt if you find many airline tires that aren't retreads. Intrestingly, they are also leased. (At least they used to be.)
  20. If that's the case, it worth a lot. That's the miserable part of the job IMHO.
  21. Yikes. Can you flare to land?
  22. I always liked the Al Mooney-Comanche story in that the PA-24 is often referred to as the best plane Piper built. Piper designs tend to come from other sources. The high wing line from C.G. Taylor and the Cub, Apache/Aztec from the Twin Stinson prototype, Cherokee as I recall was a Fred Weich (Ercoupe designer)inspiration. I always thought the Cheyenne was too pretty to be a Piper, as well.
  23. BTW, keep this device in mind should you ever be called on to spread someone's ashes. No disrespect intended, but stories of ash filled cabins abound when trying to use a door or window.
  24. You will not regret retreads from Desser. Good reviews. Have put them on a Bonanza, C310, Citabria, and now on my "C". No problems.
  25. I hope my AK-950 gps switching unit, circa 2003, reflects a better time for the company.
