  1. Anyone flying Northwest today at 8:30AM? At about 4600feet? You have a very nice new Ovation paint on your bird. Bottom looks good too... So I am returning from D25 in Northern Wisconsin this morning. We got an early start (took off about 725AM) and on a 210 magnetic course by Wautoma I spot another Mooney about my altitude (I am at 4500) and quartering at my left wing...He/she is close! Under 500 feet vertical separation and converging. Other pilot saw me first and began to bank right. They crossed right behind me. My wife saw it out my side window and could not see it out her window as we converged that fast. I would estimate his course at 350 degrees. You have a pretty bird. Hope to NOT see it that close on that angle again. Good reactions. Are your underwear clean? Take care...
  2. Drapo, you seem especially "vested" in others NOT interpreting the results of this incident. Care to explain why you feel our being able to read and interpret is such an affront to you? I have read and re-read the preliminary report and keep coming to the same conclusion, yet you seem to really take issue with that interpretation. Information is information. Analysis by me isn't worth a thimble full of sweat...You continue to respond to shut up and wait. Why do you keep double, triple, quadruple down on this? Why sir does it bother you so much?
  3. It would appear that your partner is the one that needs the upset training. Sounded like you did a good job in a tough situation...
  4. No biggie. I see dead people...
  5. Are you scaling these people? If you are trusting them about their weight and you have self-imposed a 230lb limit then you need to get out a scale and say "Surprise".
  6. Here's WTF Jim. Don't want or need 406ELT...unless you want to install it for free. Same with AofA. Free? Yup. Want/Need? Nope. Nothing to do with cheap. To compare this with maintenance is so off base as to be easily tagged...OUT.
  7. Been there done that, but the ball is CENTERED....No messing around with uncoordinated slow flight and stalls. Did that once...NEVER again.
  8. The standard for a military aviator is way high. The standard for a fighter pilot...Higher still. They are identified, and I agree, that they are the best of the best. This performance was not just below the curve it was rock bottom...and innocent people die. I have a SUPER HIGH expectation of military fighter pilots. I don't care one bit if you think my judgement is harsh. I call a spade a spade. I fold.
  9. No it is not. This was totally preventable with compliance from a highly precise platform that was communicating with ATC. NOT acceptable. If you can't play down low and follow the rules as instructed then stay off the playground. This is why I would just as soon fly into Oshkosh as put another hole in my head. Human Error because of failure to act. NOT ACCEPTABLE. You have an aircraft that wants to turn and climb and you become "Mr. Inaction" at that time? NOPE.
  10. Horrible call by Pete. Horrible in-decision by F-16 pilot. One was a quarterback running a play as called. One was a pilot NOT executing as called. One resulted in a lost game. Other was....a disaster.
  11. Just finished reading a blog discussing how Oshkosh is going to be ruined: He proceeded to describe in detail goobers not knowing/following directions and poor airmanship. Here is what stuck in my craw: A Mooney pilot asked to turn south twice after take-off (while waiting to depart on the ground) even though procedure is to fly five miles outside of Class D. He asked again after take-off. Was again told the procedure. He turned South immediately after getting the final "NO" to his request. Decisions have consequences that can be catastrophic in a plane. Follow instructions, you might just save your or other innocent peoples lives. Free will and independent thought are awesome and have their place. Not exclusively...
  12. An accident chain requires a "chain of events" to occur....Domino's to line up. This isn't an accident accept that it was unplanned for the two that are dead. The "Major" was given specific instructions that would have broken the chain. His inaction resulted in the deaths of two innocent human beings and the loss of two airframes, one of which I helped purchase. I also paid to train him to follow instructions to prevent events such as these. This occurred because the F-16 pilot did not turn when instructed. He had the information to break the accident chain and he "decided NOT to do as he was instructed". End of story. End of two lives.
  13. This was like me hitting a ballon when the controller told me the balloon was there and how to evade contact. The speed difference/closure and communication with the controller put the trajedy squarely on the Major's shoulders. This can get spun and made a lot more complicated than it is. The F-16 pilot failed to take evsive action to separate from a slow mover that was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I WILL point my finger. I WILL call him out. They are dead he was/is wrong. I hope he thinks of his in-action and what it cost others vs. him every damn day that he breaths air that I fly in and hopefully he doesn't.
  14. Why worry about drone's when there are F-16's around...
  15. The preliminary says all I need to know. I stand by my words.
  16. Here are my thoughts on this: 1. I hope that Major flying that F-16 rots in hell for murdering two innocent civillians flying that 150. 2. No excuse. This should NEVER have happened. 3. I hope the family sues for the price of a wasted F-16. 4. This should NEVER have happened. 5. Preliminary released. Controller advised of traffic. Advised of 100 feet vertical separtion...REALLY!? 6. What a bunch of shit. Everyone that flies should be 100% watching how this is handled. 7. That guy should be out of the Air Force and sued for every penny he has got. 8. THIS IS A TRAJEDY and waste of life and taxpayer money that NEVER SHOULD HAVE OCCURED. 9. SHAME on the Pilot. 10. Could of been me... WHERE IS the Outrage?...
  17. If the previous owner said it always read this way...I would only be concerned if it suddenly went way higher than it's "normal". My #2 is always 30-40 degrees hotter than 1, 3 & 4. Is what it is. Has read that way for 550 hours.... So...It IS normal to read there. If otherwise THEN it has my attention...
  18. Twice. I point to gear indicator and pull down on sleeve to confirm LOCKED. I changed the down pull from a backward pull as a result of Mooneyspace... Last point/pull is when on short final.
  19. Aviation, Navigate... Communicate. Bad advice is far worse than NO advise...
  20. The preliminary seems to indicate he likely stalled the plane. I can't imagine being engine out in low IMC with my family on board. Just to awful to even contemplate... Something to be said about getting flaps and keeping ball centered. A controlled crash, while still a crash is a better option. Tighten belts, open door, fly plane, Tell 'em how much you love them, fly the plane all the way to the ground. FIGHT... Go down swinging. Waiting for IFR to clear in Northern Wisconsin as we speak...
  21. But it sells a lot of $1000 biscuits...
  22. Good Grief! Glad you caught that.
  23. Marks: Seriously good stuff here. Thank you. May have saved a life with your words. THAT, is good medicine...
