Garmin GDL39 / GDL39 - 3D question
MyNameIsNobody replied to mschmuff's topic in General Mooney Talk
Does everybody/some/nobody have a separate GPS antenna plugged into their GDL-39 on the glarescreen? I had one, but the male in from the small suction mount antenna (also at base of glarescreen) has lost its metal shielding and is loose. I am wondering if it is doing anything or even necessary. My wires are hidden under glarescreen pad and the male plugs into a 696 for redundant weather on Ipad and 696. I don't notice the smallish footprint (just right of center bar), but the heat is pretty high from the unit. I have long since paid for the unit by having no XM subscription payment. Can I lose the GPS antenna on the glarescreen for GDL39? The 696 has an external co-ax antenna connection. -
Check your landing gear closely!!!

The horror...Mooney gear collapses left and right since his incidents...Surprised there is an insurance carrier that will write them, pilots that will fly them...Fear the Mooney gear failure. Poor Piper...His gear are probably getting hammered into submission as we speak. -
I want regs that limit the altitude to 200' max from mfr. I want a chip in them that says who owns them and when/where they were purchased. I want laws that clearly state that if you hover over my property or areas where general public are gathered that you forfeit your UAV. There are privacy/Noise/Safety issues that need to be established in a pro-active not reactive manner on a national basis. Idiots/perverts and those that do because they can and there is no rule against it ARE the problem. Someone in the industry profiting takes a different position. Jacks surprise...

Airbound Aviation Caldwell NJ (it's just a Mooney)
MyNameIsNobody replied to Jim Peace's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
I am just different (as you all know). If that owner said that to me I would have hung up the phone and during a face to face he likely would have gotten a little spittle on his face while I explained the finer points of a contract for service, customer expectations, what I think of his comment regarding my aircraft that is VERY special to me... Oh well, I am just different. -
Don't cry to me when someone you care about is impacted by UAV 6719N... There NEEDS to be regulatory guidance...RULES on GPS UAV's. (Construction and Flight operations). Only someone that has a narrow band width would not agree with that. Yes, I do "thing" that "that guy" will have less access to abuse and those that regulate have more ammo to educate and enforce.

There absolutely SHOULD be (mandated by law) controls on altitude and airspace for UAV's that fly by GPS. Little cheap hand-held devices are not the problem. You can't control them when out of sight/will lose control. This is another failure of BIG G. Or a Master Plan. Let the market grow and when people start dying and yelling swoop in and make it all better...Instead of having better laws out in front of the "wave". Who is "that guy"? The guy that thinks flying a drone up with GA and Commercial aircraft is a "cool" idea? Even a low information guy...the same guys that shoot lasers into an airline cabin at night...KNOWS they are breaking the law. They are wired to "not give a damn" about others. You can not rid the world of them...but you can engineer products to limit the abuse/reckless use and put chips/registration (like firearms) wannabee laws that will identify who purchased/when/where they live/what the unit is.

Retractable Step Servo Parts Breakdown?
MyNameIsNobody replied to RLCarter's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Again, while "stock" diaphragms may be available the reason that Brittain can't produce them is because of the rubber on the certified unit no longer being available...They must jump through numerous regulatory hoops to "prove" that the new formulation works to certified standards. The "stock" units would not be "legal" in a certified plane, right? Brittain was able to "get me a unit" when I had plane in for re-do on all PC servos and altitude hold install. Keep pestering them. Squeeky wheel... -
I am just seeing how many pages we can get on the knob. 5? 10?

Whatever. I know your plane isn't going to fall out of the f-ing sky. I asked a question regarding buying a knob that is not designed for an airplane. A knob that would likely do exactly what you want it to do...I asked if it was "legal". I got my answer. I have also read about the B.S. of the FAA regarding the use of an IPAD...a devise that ABSOLUTELY increases safety of flight...on a RAM Mount being "an issue". I wonder what the ramp inspector would do when he saw your yoke mount and then saw the fancy knob for the Ceiling Air scoop...? I wonder.

My dad did a nice original pencil drawing of E2-S and C in formation with one other P-51 with drop tanks from a WWII photo. Beautiful scheme to see in color. Good for you on that experience! Pretty awesome.

So that's O.K. to put uncertified non-aviation parts on a certified aircraft? Alrighty then. There are plenty of real-deal knobs out there. Is this "legal" or not?

Bill,I think you are set... -
My "interpretation" of the "changing the flare concept" is to stop decent with round out and hold it off as long as I can. The plane finally stalls in ground effect and I get the yoke back....flaring/holding the nose off with back-pressure until it settles in. My co-owner has basically planted the plane the last three times I was with him. Flying it on and...in my opinion...yoke-yanking late to prevent narrowly prevent nose-wheel from contacting runway. I don't like the technique...I have literally said "flare" the last three times... It is a technique though.

I just replaced earcups (leather $20 bucks from Spruce) in my 15 year old Headset X. It still looks like new. Bose gave me a great deal back in the day as they accidently sent me two units....Never requested payment. Sold other new pair for $700 on Ebay. Headset X for $300. About what they should cost...

+1....Hold it off...slow it down...keep nose-wheel off as long as I can after mains contact. It is a fun game. Play it.
