I'm staying at the Courtyard Tampa Downtown. Steve
  2. I flew a Hope Air flight today - transporting a person from a remote community that has to travel for a medical medical appointment (not medevac). The flight was from Hamilton Ontario (CYHM) up to Hearst (CYHF) in Northern Ontario. It's the furthest North I've been in my home province (3 hours by Mooney) and far enough North that there was still ice on the lakes!
  3. I'm sure I saw Mooneys earlier but didn't know what they were. The first time I became aware of Mooneys was reading Plane & Pilot magazine in the early '90s, there was an article about a Swiss couple who were flying their Mooney across the Atlantic. I remember thinking what a beautiful airplane it was. My interest in Mooney continued to grow reading Bill Cox's regular comments about his F model in his columns. For the next 20 or so years it was always in the back of my mind that when I could buy an airplane, Mooney would be at the top of the list. I finally bought my Mooney in 2015 and the honeymoon still hasn't ended. Steve
  4. I generally try to change it at 25 hours or 4 months, whichever comes first. If I'm flying a lot, I'll sometimes let it go to 30ish hours.
  5. Congratulations on your new airplane, you'll love it!
  6. Happy Pi Day @aviatoreb!
  7. I'm thinking I may go this route too, although I'm waiting for the autopilot. It looks great! Steve
  8. I dropped my J off at Clarence's shop this morning for her annual. I got to see the IO-720 in pieces, hopefully he'll have it back together soon. I forgot to take pictures
  9. I have a Tanis heater and a blanket over the cowl. I'll turn it on at least 4 hours before flying - 8 hours if it's really cold.
  10. I'm registered, I can't wait, it's been far too long! Steve
  11. No, I'm pretty sure it means that if they then wanted to sell that airplane to a Canadian operator that they would have trouble importing the airplane and putting it into service in Canada.
  12. I am not aware of any plan by NAV Canada to provide TIS-B or FIS-B. While I would of course love to have it, I don't know how feasible it would be when they've gone the route of space based ADS-B. For the US, I image to cost to provide it is minimal in addition to the ADS-B ground stations they were already installing. If you are building, powering and servicing the receivers, it's probably minimal cost to add the transmitters in the same locations. To install ground stations all over Canada only to provide wx and traffic information would be hugely expensive. Perhaps if it was possible for the satellites to broadcast it, that would be great, but I don't believe they have that capability and they are already in space so it's probably too late.
  13. I couldn't remember their name, but yes, they installed a unit at my home field ( Burlington CZBA). I had not heard that they were in any way working with Nav Canada, I thought they were entirely independent.
  14. I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the "out" part of any transponder is single band, it's only the "in" that is dual band. Canada doesn't have TIS or FIS, except when you're close enough to the border to receive the US broadcast. Although there is company that has installed some FIS stations at various airports that want them, my home field being one of them, so wherever they are, you get it.
  15. My understanding is that they studied data they were getting from bottom mounted antenna in the hope of not needing to mandate diversity. While the satellites do receive broadcasts from them, they aren't consistent enough to be used for separation.
  16. The way I saw it worded by NAV Canada was class C, D and E "no sooner than 2026", so I think there is a reasonable chance that it will be later. Time will tell. I have a Lynx 9000D+ so I'm ready. According to Google, a radio operator's permit is still required in Canada, but I haven't seen mine in a decade and no one has asked to see it since I had to show it when I was hired for ATC 26 years ago.
  17. The needle broke off one of mine. Clarence may know that 3 month time frame as he's got one on order for me.
  18. I wonder if the B737 Max was a factor?
  19. My wife named ours Gwendolyn. When she first saw her, she looked at the registration (C-GWED) and said her name is Gwendolyn and it stuck.
  20. I had been thinking for a few years about getting some form of power tug but was always to cheap to actually get one. Then I injured my shoulder last year and couldn't push the airplane back into the hangar on my own so I bought a Sidewinder. It works quite well but ice/snow are a problem. Overall I'm happy with it - and my shoulder has healed Steve
  21. Several days in an unheated hangar and there a chance what's on it will come off, it will at least prevent more from accumulating. As @N201MKTurbo said, bumping the ice with your fist cracks it and it will fall off. From the picture, it looks like you are at Buttonville, you could probably get Million Air to spray it with Type 1, but I'm sure that wouldn't be cheap.
  22. I used to use DC4, but the Tempest filters now say to not use anything.
  23. Congrats!
  24. I keep forgetting that Flair carries passengers now, they used to just be cargo.
