  1. I'm really not sure how many hours they needed for the AV-30 install, but that sounds high. I had mine put in during annual and had a new panel cut and a bunch of things moved around - jpi 900 moved from the copilot side over to my side etc. I also had all my windows replaced so trying to guess how many hours went to installing the AV-30 from the total labor hours billed is impossible. Clarence @M20Doc did the install, perhaps he can give you a ballpark idea of the number of hours required for it?
  2. I'm at Burlington if that helps. I know there are some Mooneys at Buttonville, but I don't know if they are on here.
  3. Wow, I must really trust you Clarence, all those rides you've given me where you are both the pilot and the mechanic!
  4. For sure!
  5. I don't know if it's true or not, but I remember one of my math profs telling us that probably the last mathematician to have a good grasp of all know mathematics at the time, was Gauss. He also told us (this was early '90s) that there had been more new mathematics discovered since 1950, than in all previous human history.
  6. Oh I thought about it, I really wanted Grant's Ovation, but the cost to move up was too much. I interpreted the OP's question to be that you trade airplanes (no cost to purchase), you just have to live with operating expenses.
  7. If I could straight trade, I'd give up my J for a FIKI Ovation
  8. Clarence, could you weld another IO-360 onto the front of mine to make my airplane more like yours?
  9. Tried to calibrate the AoA today, after a little experimentation I'm not sure that it's worth displaying. It kinda works, but not well enough to be of any practical use. @Jakes Simmonsas to your AI acting like a weak vacuum AI, I'm curious if your AV-30 is wired to your gps? I don't actually know if that could be a factor or not, but mine is wired to my IFD440, and I find that mine works flawlessly as an AI. Steve
  10. Great report Seth! So happy to hear of your Missile's return to the skies. Steve
  11. I've flown a bit more with the AV-30 and I can say that I'm very happy with it. I configured page 3 to display heading today, and I only remembered to check on it once for precession. It was after 20 minutes and there was no noticable precession. I wonder if it's possible that the precession is an installation issue? Steve
  12. He wants to keep his appearance a mystery
  13. Post maintenance test flight today, had to go back to the shop to get a bit more adjustment done to the rudder, ball wasn't quite centered in cruise. Here is a picture of Clarence making the adjustment for me - I believe that this may be the only picture on MS of the Doc.
  14. Steve Doherty, it wouldn't surprise me if you know him, he's a very sociable guy.
  15. My father in law was a UL controller in the 70's but moved to YZ in 76 or 77, so I guess you missed him by a few years. He retired in June with 50 years of service.
  16. Another question, why bother flying timed legs in the hold? @drapowere you a YUL controller? I'm a YYZ controller.
  17. Ok, so I promised a while ago that I would provide a pirep on the AV-30. Finally got my airplane back from the shop today, but I only had time for a short test flight. So far it seems to work very well. AI behaves as I had hoped, no apparent laziness. ASI and Alt agreed with my analog gauges. I can't comment on the heading precession, I had it configured to gps track as that is how I had always intended to have it before I knew of the issue. I will fly more in the coming days and hopefully get in some practice ifr under the hood to really test out the AI. I will also experiment with the heading indication to see if mine precesses badly. I'll report back once I've tested it more, but so far so good. Steve
  18. My Mooney was born while I was in my last year of high school (1990), it took another 25 years before our paths merged.
  19. I should be able to report on the AV-30C AI soon, I'm hoping to have my airplane back any day now with the newly installed AV-30. Your post has certainly made me apprehensive, I hope mine behaves better, although I still have my vacuum AI in the panel, it's just been shifted over to the right. Steve
  20. I did back in the mid 90s. I have a little over 100 hours, mostly thermals but a bit of ridge and wave time.
  21. Wow Seth, what an ordeal! As I've been reading the thread, at first I was thinking about things I would say/ask about your airplane; that just doesn't seem to matter now! I'm glad that you finally have your missile back in the air. But most importantly I wish you and your family well and hope for the best for William! Steve
  22. @Rick Ludtke, how much work would be involved in making an A/P adaptor that would allow the HDX to drive legacy A/P's like Aspen has? It might allow some people to go ahead with installing the system with their current A/P, with the intention of upgrading to the Dynon A/P once it's certified.
  23. I have just over 500 hours in my 1990 J. Off the top of my head, in the time that I've owned her I've had: Fuel tanks resealed, Battery replaced, Vacuum pump replaced, Mechanical AI overhauled, Mags overhauled, Front engine seal replaced, Baffle seals replaced, An elevator push rod replaced, Nose gear truss replaced, Electric trim repaired multiple times, Master switch replaced, Avionics blower replaced, And the plane is in the shop now having the windows replaced - I guess that's more of an upgrade than maintenance. I'm sure I've forgotten a bunch of items. There of course have been a while bunch of oil changes and multiple annual inspections... Steve
  24. I once watched @M20Doc adjust mine, while it didn't appear to be the easiest thing to do, it also only took him a few minutes to do. If I remember correctly, he used a crow foot wrench?
  25. Unfortunately I don't have any additional insight. I don't know which ANS providers are currently using space based ADS-B, or which ones will in the future. My understanding is that the data is there so even if ATC isn't using ADS-B for the provision of service, in the event of an accident, the last reported position can be looked up. Someone would need to know to ask Aireon for the information however.
