From an article published in the New England Journal of Medicine... If one assumes that the number of asymptomatic or minimally symptomatic cases is several times as high as the number of reported cases, the case fatality rate may be considerably less than 1%. This suggests that the overall clinical consequences of Covid-19 may ultimately be more akin to those of a severe seasonal influenza (which has a case fatality rate of approximately 0.1%) or a pandemic influenza (similar to those in 1957 and 1968) rather than a disease similar to SARS or MERS, which have had case fatality rates of 9 to 10% and 36%, respectively.2 https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMe2002387

Landing with every possible flap configuration was one of the first things I did (power on, power off, etc...) in the Mooney. There was a substantial difference in the F model. The short bodies may behave different with flaps so I can't comment directly on those since I haven't really tried all those scenarios in a short body. It's my opinion, everyone should do this... however it's just an opinion.

Replacing original throttle, mixture, and prop cables
David_H replied to salty's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
I replaced the mixture cable (75F with quadrant) last year. This was done with the engine installed and the work was inspected and signed off by an AI. Notes are below. The Quadrant Mixture Cable cost was $325.00 + shipping/handling from McFarlane. The Quadrant control cable manufactured dimensions have to be correct on BOTH SIDES of the system and there isn't much adjustment available to compensate for measurement or manufacturing errors. If your cables are still good, USE YOUR CABLES to fill out the manufacturing form. The cables manufactured by McFarlane are not "exactly" like the originals and there are slight differences that can sometimes affect the adjustment available to set the total cable throw (full rich - full lean). That is not to say the product is of poor quality though. The cables are probably better quality than the originals. If you decide to ship your cables to McFarlane to manufacture to... make certain they return your original cables to you so you can verify the new cable was manufactured correctly. If the cable doesn't have sufficient adjustment available, you'll need the original ones to track down the point of error. If your cables are bad enough that accurate measurements cannot be made, You will need to take the needed measurements to fill out the manufacturing form. The cable quality was good. McFarlane makes a nice, simple product. The customer service wasn't very good. I would honestly search for another manufacturer if I needed to replace another control cable. -
I was under the impression that these were interest bearing loans... to be paid for by the future labor of citizens of the United States.

Very impressive. The colors and workmanship look very good.

Hopefully people will tank up at other pumps and let that fuel sit in the underground tanks. This seems like an example of unreasonable predatory pricing and directly goes against the common argument about fuel currently sitting in the tanks being bought at a higher price per gallon.

Why make those comments? Your a Mathematician... show me the modelling equations that accurately predicted the results we now have? The initial prediction modeling results paraded about in the media does not match the current observed data available now. A graphical overlay of the predictions to the current data wouldn't even fit within the massive errors bars they left themselves. Post any prediction model that shows how the current data fit curves agree with ANY of the prediction models (the actual Mathematical modeling equation(s)).

This whole debacle would be similar to an AD being issued for one aircraft model of the M20 line and then watching a local Mayor or state Governor ground all GA airplanes (that werent deemed "necessary") in their city, county, town, or state... for everyone's "safety." The Wuhan CV forecast models that were used to make the current economic decisions have been shown to be mathematically incorrect. The data being published isn't even reliable. It's extremely difficult to understand how a professional scientist or mathematician could mix up or confuse exponential growth and linear growth.

It's difficult to understand how a local municipal ordinance or statute can somehow gain the required authority to supersede the US Constitution. There are still people within the United States that believe that authority cannot be created by a decree (legislative or individual)... it must be derived from a source.

The name change resulted in a price increase. I haven't been able to tell much difference other than the name change so far.

Perhaps testing is being performed for GPS backup systems. https://www.gpsworld.com/gps-backup-demonstration-projects-explained/

I like aluminum and rivets. To each their own, I guess.

Selling the airplane and limiting the liability
David_H replied to cliffy's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
It appears that there are two paths available. 1) Take the advice of the first response posted by @N201MKTurbo , have another IA bless the plane with a thorough annual (without your involvement), and hand the keys over to the next steward knowing you did the best you could. 2) Scrap the plane and erase most of your potential liability. The "Generational Thing" seems to be coming up often lately. Leaving nothing to the following generation doesn't seem like the right answer though. -
Garmin appears to have released this product line to put competitors in a defensive position. The cost/value ratio for this product line doesn't really look right though.
-
To buy themselves some product development time, Avidyne could lower the MSRP of the IFD 440 significantly to compete with Garmin's latest GPS navigation offerings. It's possible that Avidyne could place themselves in a competitive position by properly placing the products they have available within the current market environment. Most would agree that the market has shifted significantly since the release of the IFD series navigators. Avidyne needs to come up with some sort of response if they want to be seen as a competitor. Remaining quiet and hoping the Garmin product release storm passes by might not be the best long-term strategy.

Selling the airplane and limiting the liability
David_H replied to cliffy's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
You could be over thinking this. It appears as if you're a conscientious person. It's very likely that the maintenance history is much better on your plane than many other planes out there. Not only have you put your name in the logbooks, but you've sat in the seat and put hours on the airframe after the maintenance events. That has to count for something. Having the plane signed off after an annual inspection by a person with no affiliation to you or the plane would be about as good as one could ever do. -
TruTrak Autopilot Pre Order's / Status Update

The TT/BK Autopilot belief summary: Excited ---> Optimistic ---> Less optimistic --> Mildly Disappointed ---> Mildly Irritated ---> Angry at myself for believing the hype ---> No longer believe Now I can visit this thread for the comedy -
Selling the airplane and limiting the liability
David_H replied to cliffy's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
We can only hope that those people will never be allowed to sit in any airplane again. Parting out a fully operational and airworthy airplane is a scum move. -
Selling the airplane and limiting the liability
David_H replied to cliffy's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
Parting out a perfectly good airplane to minimize liability exposure is one of the most selfish things one could do with respect to GA. Anyone thinking in those terms shouldn't be allowed to own an airplane. -
Enough money might make assembling a good sales team possible. It would be extremely difficult to recruit and assemble a good engineering team at this point.

TruTrak Autopilot Pre Order's / Status Update
David_H replied to Jeev's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
Garmin seems to have found an effective lubrication recipe to move things through the FAA approval process. Perhaps Garmin started a very long time ago... or currently have people better at getting these things through the FAA process now. Everyone wants TT/BK to succeed... but this thread has been going on for a fair amount of time now. -
Mooney's brand name took a severe beating over the past few months. That tweet almost read like a drunk text.
-
Fair enough... Naming companies that are not behaving in a GA friendly way is helpful to everyone though.
-
The "let's not name a company's name approach" is not helpful to the future of the GA community.
-
A company's name is what makes the small world of GA work.
