  1. I’m going.. departing from Omaha with an overnight in Albuquerque to visit friends. Would be happy to fly as a two-ship if you want to meet up.
  2. If you have ruled out the bulb, then it is likely the power supply. If your continuity tests pass, I would recommend NOT doing a voltage check. Years ago, I was doing the very same thing on a different airplane with Whelen strobes. While troubleshooting, I did a voltage check on the power supply, and got zapped so bad I almost fell down. I'll never do that again.
  3. I have my annual scheduled the first week of March. Was wondering if anyone will be needing a ride down from the mid-west (I'm departing from Omaha). Also hoping someone may be picking up their Mooney around that time, and headed back north with an empty seat. I know it's still months out, but never too early to ask!
  4. - Fly my first Angel Flight mission - Fly in the Mooney Caravan into Oshkosh (already signed up for the Gunfighters clinic in Feb) - Earn my CFI - Succumb to panel upgrade temptation
  5. Yep, I’ve got both the two plug and lemo in my aircraft. But in order to minimize cables in the cockpit, I thought it was a good idea if Bose came up with a conversion kit that would provide Bluetooth connectivity to your comm system. Wishful thinking. I like my A20s too much to give them up though.
  6. I had not heard of this, and was interested until I read that we had to return our old cable. Now... if Bose sold a unit that plugged into either the two-plug or 6-pin connectors, and then connected to my headset via bluetooth (essentially removing the cable from my headset to the aircraft), I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
  7. Wow... 230kts at 9.4gph.. tailwind or not..that's impressive!
  8. My door isn't connected to an interior light on my '78 J. Or if it is, the connection is faulty.
  9. I always check the door before I enter, and then again after runup. I once saw a Mooney takeoff at a flyin, and noticed his baggage door was open. Fortunately, he brought it around, closed it, and took off again, so I assume the damage was negligible. I like the idea of a light though... Something as simple as a battery powered microswitch connected to a LED would do the trick. Hmm.......
  10. Just signed up! This is going to be awesome!
  11. How much time was on the engine? Did you notice anything abnormal on your engine monitor that could have provided clues that it was time to overhaul?
  12. Paul, you stated it quite well. N6XM had a gear collapse as just as I took the runway for takeoff (very slow taxi speed). The longer version of this story can be found here: https://mooneyspace.com/topic/20619-landing-gear-collapsed-during-taxi/?tab=comments#comment-311843 I would not have settled for a prop strike inspection. My insurance co offered a payout of the insured value ($50k), and also offered $36k if I wanted to keep the airplane and fix it. I thought the insurance company's offer was very fair, however given the repairs required to the airframe, engine teardown, new prop, and personal reasons, I elected to let it go. That was a fine airplane, and I do believe one of the best C models out there, but after struggling for three months to keep it or not, I let the insurance company have it. Now I have a J, and life is once again, good.
  13. I have a friend with a Super Viking. I found it to be a nice flying airplane, with a very responsive roll rate. It was fun to fly, but it is not as efficient as a Mooney. The cabin is bigger, but I cannot speak to the useful load difference. His is very well maintained, and doesn’t seem to give him any more trouble than any other airplane.
  14. That is a great video... thanks for sharing!
  15. Seth, Thank you for the offer.. but looks like I will be leaving the Mooney behind on this trip. Just couldn't swing a hangar below $500 in the area, and had to buy commercial air tickets. EZF was an option, but as you said, over an hour away from where I was going to stay. Jason
  16. I have not tried them, but will call tomorrow. Thank you for the info!
  17. Good to know... I was just hoping someone may have some extra space available at a rate that was cheaper than what was offered to me at Manassas. Does make my $165/mo rent in Omaha a little easier to digest though.
  18. I will be traveling to the DC area for 30-45 days starting next week. I am considering flying myself, but have had limited luck finding a hangar. The best rate I have found thus far is at Manasas at $500 a month. I figured it would be worth a shot asking here if someone has some extra room they could spare?
  19. Maybe even give it a glowing red spinner, dragging some helpless reindeer who can’t keep up.. now that’s a shirt I would buy!
  20. I had mine done at Maxwell about two months ago. Labor was around 4hrs total for the nose and both mains. Doughnuts were about $103 each if I remember correctly.
  21. What is your hot start procedure? For my J, my hot start procedure is similar to the cold start, minus a prime with boost pump. For a cold start, I prime using the boost pump for 5 seconds with full throttle and mixture rich. To start, throttle is pulled about ½ inch from closed and mixture is full lean. Engage the stater, and as soon as the engine starts, full rich with the mixture. I have had issues starting other fuel injected engines after an extended fuel stop in hot (90 degrees +) weather. Could have been vapor lock, which in my experience, you would have to simply wait out.
  22. I asked that question, and as expected, was told no. When the salvage company comes to take your airplane, they check the logs to ensure everything that was installed at the time of the incident/accident, is included with the airplane as it is hauled away.
  23. Starr Aviation Insurance (purchased through AOPA). I dealt with one of the Starr adjusters directly, and he was exceptionally helpful throughout the entire process.
  24. It never hurts to ask. My Mooney had just come out of annual when I had an incident causing a total loss. During the annual, I had a Powerflow installed. I did not report the exhaust install or increased value of the airplane to my insurance company until after the incident. They worked with me, and for a $25.00 premium increase plus a copy of the invoice and log book entry, they sent me a check for my full insured amount, PLUS the cost of the Powerflow (about an extra $4k). Lesson learned... always report that stuff to your insurance, as the benefit far outweighs the premium increase.
  25. Thanks Bill. The Facebook idea is a good one, but like you said, not everyone is on it.
