Please stop the misinformation. The G1000 is upgradeable to ADS-b via GTX-345R that allows Fib-b on the G1000 excluding at this time Nexrad. This is done by going to the map page, scroll to weather press MENU toggle Display FIS-B Weather. To make all this happen the proper Loader card should have been used when installing the GTX345, the latest version is -34, the Mooney Service Bulletin M20-305B date October 18, 2016 has details. The SYS Software Version on the AUX page should show 0401.34, the PFD1 should show 14.02, GIA should show 7.6. The install for my Ovation 3 took place on 1/12/16 with no issues including good bluetooth coverage. It is my understanding from Garmin that GDU SW v15.00 will address the Nexrad issue. I can attest that the flight is quite simple, I did my flight on 1-8-2017 and picked tpa airspace. I departed fd04 for kvdf and stayed under the airspace the entire time, this allowed me to do my standard rate 360 turns in both directions as well as ascending and descending turns without talking to approach. I then proceeded to Tampa Executive, landed and taxied with departure to the north. Again I stayed under the class b airspace, proceeded west to the coast and then turned back to Ocala again staying under the class b. Total time in class b airspace was 45min. On returning home, I checked on my performance report which is greek to me, but a status report is also given which was all green which what you are looking for. Good luck. The avionics shop is located at Spruce Creek Flyin community 7FL6, Avionics Installations ph. 386-492-7760, the owner is Pahan Ranasingha, his shop is booked to May for installations. As an aside, i've talked to a multitude of people, and everyone seems to be waiting for prices to drop. Pahan seems to think that prices are pretty much where they will be, but installations will become more difficult as shops get busy.

Received my Mooney back yesterday with the latest -34 software update as well as the Garmin GTX 345R without gps, I would like to report that everything is working fine. The enhancements are all working seamlessly with the G1000 as well as Bluetooth connectivity with my ForeFlight. Blaine Hoffman Ovation3 with GFC700

Great news: Mooney Service Bulletin M20-305B, Dated October 18, 2016 - All Mooney Aircraft equipped with Garmin G1000 are eligible for the Non-WAAS or WAAS Optional Upgrade Packages. What does this mean? Stec and gfc700 equipped Mooneys can now upgrade to ads-b via Garmin gtx345 and gtx345r. This is software release number -34 which is being disseminated as per bulletin. This will allow traffic and weather to be seen on the MFD via Ads-b. Please share this information with your local avionics shops as to make this transition a little easier for those that do not subscribe to Mooneyspace. Blaine Hoffman Ocala, Florida

First let me start out by how awful Mooney is on communicating through the web site. Now let me be as clear as I can since I see so much misinformation on this topic. The waas upgrade for aircraft with g1000 and gfc700 can be done for 17k hardware purchase and 2-3k for install. This upgrade did not involve replacing the mfd for the enroute Vnav function, if you want that it is another 10k. So for full waas approaches around 20k will do it. If you want synthetic vision the unlock card is 11k. If you want that fancy enroute Vnav function which replaces the mfd another 10k. So let's break this down, the prices to replace each navcom for waas is roughly 12-14k x 2 if you replace both in a non g1000 Mooney. For. 20k I replace 2 Gia63 for 2 gia63w which included install. All this can be confirmed by calling Mooney parts, and these are current prices, I did my purchase and install January of 2016. So now quit the wining and do the upgrade. Garmin GTX-345 Software Configuration Problem
Ovation3 replied to 29-0363's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
Garmin GTX 345R's are presently backordered according to Sarasota Avionics. I have ordered a unit from Sarasota avionics and by mid-May they expect to have a unit available for my ovation 3, at which time we will be installing the unit. According to Monica Gualandri-email:monica@sarasotavionics.com-there IS software compatibility with the GTX 345, however it will only avail you to traffic until another software upgrade is available. Monica is presently at training with Garman this week so she should have the latest information available for us. As an aside, sarasota avionics is also a Mooney service center. Good luck, I will keep you posted on my install as it happens. Blaine Hoffman Ocala, Florida -
Dave , To help get the word on the florida mooney flyin could you add the details on the SocialFlight app, I check it weekly and I believe more people are becoming aware of it. Listing an event is free and it gets the word out. Thx, Blaine Hoffman, Leeward Air Ranch, Ocala, Florida

ADS-B is coming-What are you doing about it?
Ovation3 replied to cliffy's topic in General Mooney Talk
I'm thinking ads-b is the beginning of the end for general aviation as we know it. I suspect user fees will be derived from the information ads-b provides to the Feds. AOPA heads up. -
At the moment I have decided not to upgrade my Ovation 3 which has a gfc700 for pure economic reasons. 20k for waas upgrade and svt another 10k; prices posted 4 yrs ago. Precise vertical guidance is nice but not completely necessary. Another issue I see with all this is the cost of certification for manufactures, if there was a way to bring this cost down we could have some semblance of affordability. I guess that is why we have EAA and the the thousands of aviators that are flying non certified aircraft.

Successful ditching in the Bahamas - not a Mooney

I hope he has good insurance, whoops, no fuel, Bahamas and no interest in salvage, makes you wonder. -
Here's to the Mother ****ing FAA
Ovation3 replied to jkhirsch's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
Granted the government has been intrusive as late, my experience with the Faa inspectors has been very cordial. My suggestion is to consult with AOPA as suggested earlier and do your homework. Cool thoughtful heads alwàys prevail. -
CFI is correct, but pic is always helpful when trying to troubleshoot.

Land and Live is a new initiative that the FAA has started and in your case don't go and live, in my opinion you are a very wise pilot and sharing this is good to hear for all. Thank you!
