  1. Ahh, I was too lazy to hover I assumed clicking would work.
  2. Upper right corner where your profile is, settings, Ignored Users. (May differ on mobile)
  3. I think this thread 107% proves that we really need to keep politics and even non-aviation discussions somewhere else where moderators have the time and energy to keep things under control.
  4. Politics: From the Latin: Poly meaning many. Ticks being small blood sucking insects.
  5. The local marine place sent my ACR ResQLink to their shop and it took about a week and was $85. But I'm not aware of any with an officially user replacable battery.
  6. I know they had fuel in the truck, but this project is running longer than planned so I'd recommend calling first and seeing what the status is.
  7. Every Saturday noon to 1(sometimes the 'kitchen' closes early), self serve fuel pump isn't back yet, but I usually manage to drive across the street from my house unless I'm travelling for work. And for anyone else, the whole story will come out, but I'm trying not to share too much publically until the Insurance company and the lawyers are done and my plane is finished.
  8. Hahahahah. Ask me for the whole story next time you see me at the KONP BBQ. Engine has been recovered from the mechanic flipping his pickup and is back at the engine shop, now we need to play the 'who is paying for the repair' game. Along with a few other 'challenges'.
  9. If we attach some ballast to the front of my plane we can probably tow it like a glider... So, yea, I don't think I'll make it.
  10. The best solution is what a previous owner of my plane did and just paint the bottom half blue. And now I realize why.
  11. I didn't find it that bad for the OAT probe I put in for the JPI. Biggest help was having one of those cheap inspection/borescope cameras to play find the safety wire when I missed the hole so I could aim better. Also remembering that if I couldn't get one way to work I could use a new piece of safety wire from the other direction to hook onto the one ferrying the actual wire. Admittedly it would have been nice to have an inspection plate between every set of ribs and then it would have taken about 5 minutes. Then again I've had plenty of practice doing this in my attic which is too short for a human so all my electrical and network conduit runs are done by fishing from the attic opening, often involving magnets.
  12. If you were flying the other way it would be downhill and you could go faster.
  13. I've said this will make a funny story someday. It's looking more like a story involving lawyers and annoyance.
  14. All I can say is make sure however your engine gets to the shop that it's insured in transit, even if it's your own car. One of the last things you want to happen is for your newly overhauled engine to get in a car accident... don't ask how I know.
  15. I'm not an electrical engineer or an A&P or anything else... But if I'm remembering the circuit right presumably the solution would be a relay switched with the Nav lights that grounds the line from the Annunciator panel when the nav lights are off, simulating the low resistance of the old nav lights and connects the line to +V when the nav lights are on. Of course, this is probably considered a major mod and requires engineering data, a full FAA approval and a 337.
  16. And if you want a stupendously expensive folding bike made exactly to your specifications, I recommend these guys(people, folks?): https://www.bikefriday.com/folding-bikes/ Now with electric models and belt drive options.
  17. I have a bicycle, it now has a battery pack(Swytch, not recommended) this is a pre-battery picture:
  18. I've installed Wing Mounted LED landing and taxi lights in my M20J and in static tests they start thermal throttling very quickly. I'm still missing the spinny bit on the front of the plane but the manufacturer says they should do much better in actual engine-running conditions. I'm going to try and figure out how to measure the current once I have an engine and a repaired plane and see how they do in actual conditions and will then share the results. The other way to improve candela is to make the beam narrower, which is why I get annoyed when beam diagrams or at least beam dimensions aren't posted. 1 trillion candlepower..... 0.01 degree beam is pretty useless... but really bright.
  19. The amps being low in-flight is what should be happening. But I suspect a JPI problem. There are 2 flavors of ammeters, one which measures alternator output(a loadmeter) where 0 is bad and anything higher means the alternator is working until you overload the alternator and one which measures battery input/output. From your picture yours should be wired as the second type(0 in the middle and a green charge for + and red discharge section for - ) If you had a ammeter that started with 0 and went up from there then you'd have a loadmeter. Check your POH for the original ammeter and see what it says. If you're supposed to have this kind of ammeter then what should happen is that you should see is a large charge right after startup(since startup will have discharged the battery some) and then reducing towards 0 as you fly and if you see a discharge in flight then the alternator is off-line or not keeping up. If it's always '3' then you have a probably JPI problem*, if your POH shows a loadmeter then you have a problem(unless someone moved the shunt to a different spot in the circuit), and if you're sitting on the ground without the engine running and turn on the lights and don't see a discharge then you have a JPI problem. * JPI being either the display or the wiring to the shunt. The M20J for instance has fuses in-line with the factory shunt and if those are kept then a blown or bad fuse can cause a constant ammeter indication.
  20. And fun facts like this is why the current art in my hangar is a printout of the entire wiring diagram from the maintenance manual. Doing a cursory check there's no way to figure out from the POH(1994 M20J at least) that it's actually hooked up this way. They do mention the avionics relay is fail active, but the wiring diagram does not appear to show that relay is on the Aux bus.
  21. The primary tool is cursing, lots and lots of cursing. One of my rings had been slightly damaged and wouldn't just rotate and slide off so I had to remove all 3 of the screws, then file the damaged part so it went back together nicely. I also took the time to use a totally aviation approved headlight, er, landing light polishing kit on the plexiglass cover since it was badly weathered.
  22. It's been great here on the coast... Rain, rain, chance of rain, rain, rain, oh, and rain.
  23. I just steal Internet from the FBO with a directional antenna to feed my Raspberry Pi temperature monitor(and switch if I ever feel the need)
  24. If only Garmin made some sort of remote comm radio that they could get approved to work with the G3X....
  25. I 100% know which fuel servo is on my plane. None at all, it's in the back of my mechanics pickup truck along with the rest of my engine. But I also see that AD in every annual entry on my plane along with the 'G' notation. Technically it's AD 2009-02-03 now.
