  1. Just remember if you're using a thermocouple OAT probe like the JPI (and if the 37 mentions in the install manual don't remind you) it will need to be extended with the same type thermocouple wire.
  2. Why would it? The Legacy AP still can connect directly to the 430W for vertical deviation and glideslope, it's not any different from the G5. You still have to keep the attitude indicator from your legacy AP if it needs one(just like the G5) but from the AP point of view it's just a fancy HSI. (There may be some question to legality if your AP has a Flight Director and you want to move the Attitude Indicator out of the primary position.)
  3. There has been no announcements I have seen that it is compatible. You would think they might make that work, but it doesn't look that way.
  4. It's the same as the G5, your autopilot can fly exactly what it can now+GPSS(with the GAD29b) but none of the stuff on the autopilot will be displayed on the G3x(FD, modes, etc) and none can be controlled from the G3x(except a heading bug), since your KFC currently requires an attitude indicator it will still need that installed. Unless you upgrade to the G500Txi and its interface box GAD43e.
  5. Yea, my budget got eaten by the overhaul monster, so I was hoping to do stuff more incrementally. Although maybe I can get a good deal on a used G5 HSI to start it off(as an eventual G3x backup)
  6. That's the only thing I'm sad about is that the rumored KI256 integration/replacement by Garmin doesn't seem to have appeared for the G3x touch/G5.
  7. There really seems like there is going to be a consolidation event with Aspen and Avidyne(my guess at least). Aspen has the displays, Avidyne the only other real WAAS GPS for GA. Avidyne sort of has an autopilot, but I'd guess Trio or TruTrak would fill that component.
  8. As part of the purchase there is paperwork to be filled out, one of those items is "Is Fuel Pressure Primary" if that is marked then a fuel pressure transducer arrives, if not you need to pay extra. And you send them the POH pages for the limits so they can set those appropriately.
  9. And the number of buttons, don't forget that.
  10. Well, it says 500 aircraft, not 500 models... just saying
  11. Luckily the one thing King did right for this switch is choosing a totally sealed switch.
  12. How about just a photo of the switch after it self destructs. Presumably under rated switch and undamped inductive kick from disconnecting.
  13. I was expecting it to be their new Aviation watch, but they already announced that... Interesting that they're doing it pre SUN 'n FUN.
  14. To summarize still no final details, seems to need an ADC, needs a digital attitude source, initially G500(presumably TXi counts), later KI-300 and Aspen. The good news is that you can pay for the King protection racket for your servos after the initial warranty extension. Presumably anyone going to SUN 'n FUN might be able to get some useful details and report back.
  15. Also, it would be good to ask if your mechanic did a capacity check as part of the annual. Not sure what Mooney says, but the ICA for the Concorde says: "Initial check at 12 months after initial installation (± 1 month). b. As long as the capacity is above 90%, subsequent capacity checks every 12 months in service (± 1 month)." Mine is currently sitting on the floor waiting for its capacity check.
  16. The engine shop just got done last week, short list: case and crank had to go out for build up and grind down, as appropriate, other problems found necessitating it becoming an overhaul, fuel system went out(since it's now an overhaul) and then cylinders took a long time... So, now it's in Tom's hands, again, finally.
  17. I have the Portasol butane iron(I guess it's now the 75 watt version) with the heat end and deflector. But admittedly after starting this comment I remembered I've not used it on solder sleeves, only regular/environmental heat shrink. I like the iron shape better than the mini-torch shape.
  18. Don't bother Tom, he's supposed to be putting my engine back together(well, all the parts that came off for my Overhaul/Prop Strike inspection) and I'd really like my plane back this year.
  19. It was on my list for "as soon as approved" however an unexpected engine overhaul means I may have to settle for doing it incrementally.
  20. Behold the power of relays... And if one aerospace grade high reliability relay was not enough for the manufacturer, put another one in the power line in series controlled from the second pole of the switch.
  21. Luckily mine was easy, it had fried the yoke disconnect switch. Probably the cheapest possible fix. Basically as soon as power was applied it started beeping didn't even get to the beginning of the test part.
  22. I guess I wasn't clear, this is after they become Jeppesenized in a couple years.
  23. There are now 37 different versions of Foreflight and you have to call them with your credit card to get a download code for the proper version and the prices aren't posted and the descriptions are vague about what's included.
  24. I'm having Deja Vu all over again.
