No worries Skip, and yes informed fact based comments are the most helpful but it's the opinions that make it fun. Now if only someone was needing to know the proper way to stretch a sheet of watercolor rag paper before painting or the difference between wet and dry brush technique but I know this isn't an art forum. Or if you needed guidance on how to design and engineer and electric distribution system for a subdivision or commercial development then I would be right at home.

Wow a subject that I might be able to provide some personal experience to. As a child and into my early 20's I suffered from the worst allergies starting in early spring into the late summer symptoms so severe you would not believe. We tried prescription Medications, OTC antihistamines and immunization shots nothing worked. I hated the side affects often more than the reactions to the pollen. When I was at work a customer saw how badly I was suffering and recommended acupuncture. I was so desperate I would give it a try even being the skeptic that I am. I found a guy in the yellow pages this before the interweb I mean how do you know what to look for right. Went for four sessions once a week the first time I was not feeling bad so no noticeable difference but the second week was a really bad day, he placed several needles around my face and shoulders and within seconds my sinus was completely clear I mean it was weird. Two more treatments and I was done. I had to return a few years later because of a real bad season and had a few visits. Let me say that was in the early 80's and I have never had a problem since even when folks who were experiencing hey fever that normally would never have a problem. the way it was explained to me is that we are all allergic to pollens but people that don't suffer have better immunity naturally and what acupuncture does is stimulate the glands organs or other bits to get off their lazy butts and get to work. Makes sense, I'm glad you found relief but it's likely you will suffer this again come next season you might look into acupuncture as a possible alternative absolutely no side affects and has lasted my whole life truly amazing. Folks that don't suffer with allergies have no idea how miserable and debilitating it can be.

On a much lighter note my wife and I took our pup Magneto for a flight to pick up some essential supplies from Petsmart down at the Nut Tree. Snoopy flew nicely as always such a joy to fly. AV gas was 3.70 a gallon there at VCB so I filled it to the brim which was only 18 gallons oh well. We bought Magneto some mutt muffs a while back and finally got to try them out he didn't like them much. The parking lot at the Nut tree usually completely full was almost empty only a couple stores open, very sad. High pressure made for a bit of haze in the sky and the winds blowing over the hills made for some pretty bumpy air but was very uplifting both figuratively and literally to be out flying. I hope ALL of you are well I hope and pray that these difficult times defy the experts and we get through this sooner rather than later. God Bless

I enjoy reading informed opinions as much as the next and there are a number of studies that don't agree with the models we have based all the doom and gloom on and they are being provided by people that are equally informed with outstanding credentials as well. Obviously I'm not a scientist nor am I a doctor of any kind. But I am an American citizen and know when my constitutional rights are under attack I don't like what's going on not one stinking bit. We are making a huge reaction to projected outcomes when we still don't have a denominator as to how many people have had this virus suffered minor symptoms if any and moved on. More studies are being done and more conclusions are confirming this to be the case. I also am VERY suspicious of the number of deaths that were strictly due to the virus and not underlying conditions. I don't post much on MS anymore because of attitudes like yours. I guess all the millions of normal hard working people that are in the process of losing everything should just keep their uneducated mouths shut do as their told be thankful for the appreciation of their elected leaders for being good little soldiers nothing personal I just get really miffed when I read an insult especially when it's between the lines.

We hopped in our Mooney with our pup and made an essential flight today to pick up some doggie supplies at pet smart. Had to cross the street twice and didn't die. Thank God. Even though the air was a bit rough it was great to be out social distancing at 160mph.

All this talk about re opening being dependent on testing seems somewhat misleading. IMHO the only test that really matters is the antibody test. Unless they plan on doing a daily test for people what good is that. Your given the green light to go to work after your test comes up negative what's to say you won't become infected that day and unless you get another test before your next day out you could be spreading the virus. We might as well just start wearing full hazmat gear if we wait for a proven vaccine the world economy is going to be beyond repair and please don't accuse me of thinking money is more important than health but the long term risk of poverty will be far worse than this stupid Chinese virus.some of you worry about our healthcare facilities being over loaded a real concern for the short term. But if we don't get people back to work and keep businesses open there isn't going to be any revenue to keep those hospitals and practices open they will be forced to close their doors permanently. State and local governments are now feeling great economic pressure because the revenue faucet has been turned off because there is very little commerce no business means no taxes. Food supplies will begin to fail they already have. None of the political leaders are going to risk their careers by being accused of putting the economy above the possible risks associated with re opening. They are talkIng about not re opening schools even in the fall. Our economy is the life blood of this country and if it dies there won't be any way to do anything for those that get sick.

Thanks I was just trying to find a link not very good with an iPad

But that's the problem, we don't know how many people have actually had the virus and were without or had minor symptoms and never sought treatment. A very recent study done in Santa Clara county has determined that the antibody was present in between 50 to 80 times more than previously thought. I can't recall the name but I believe it was Stanford that did the research. I still believe that CA was probably dealing with this infection much sooner as it is a major point of entry for people traveling from China. And please educate me regarding vaccines have we ever developed a cure for a viral infection treatment yes but a cure last time I checked there is still no cure for the common cold, right or am I mistaken. By isolating the population all we have done is prolong the inevitable. At least it did allow the needed gearing up of medical preparedness. CA only began state wide isolation two days before NY not much of a head start. I have no lettered credentials and truly respect your much more informative position. But sadly most folks are more like me than you and all we are hearing from the medical professionals is the only thing we can do is stay away from each other let our businesses crash and burn and hang in there until we have a vaccine by best estimates 12 to 18 months from now. Not very reassuring if you ask me.

Unfortunately in this modern age of news it's hard to find a news source that doesn't editorialize and call it reporting. Biased reporting from one ideology or another is almost impossible to avoid these days. Or maybe I should say unbiased reporting is almost impossible to find these days.

My point was missed and sadly my sense of humor as well.

Well reading all this has only deepened my mood other than that very nice trumpet piece. People say we can never go back to normal life until we have a cure and if I'm not mistaken aren't cold viruses essentially corona type virus. If so I guess we are truly fu...d because last time I checked there still is no cure for the common cold. Annual flu vaccines are based on predicted outcomes and are not always effective. I guess we will just have to learn to live in a police state and all get mandatory inoculations and carry our papers and wear masks. I guess bank robbers will be happy at least. Can you give me a description of the suspect, well officer he was wearing a mask like all the other customers that day...

Interesting comparison with the burning building example and I hope not a real comparison to our whole country. But here is an example of a reverse scenario. Unfortunately out west we experience major wildfires as you all know and as a result the various government agencies require mandatory evacuations when a fire breaks out and even when there are emergency declarations made by the state they cannot force us to flee our property. If you do leave they can prevent you from returning but they can't force you to evacuate. Now I'm hoping this shelter in place business doesn't extend into the fire season because it's going to be interesting if a major fire breaks out and we have to shelter in place while we are being told to evacuate in mass.

Please don't misunderstand I am not trying to trivialize that this virus isn't hardcore all I'm saying is there are concerns beyond just health and illness to consider. I'm sure there are millions of people that have lost their ability to provide for themselves and their families and I can't count how many TV doctors and health officials that think of this as an "inconvenience" that I have watched or read in the news. Look I don't post much here on MS anymore because when it comes to our main subject i.e. Aviating and Mooney experience I don't have much to offer but I read multiple times a day because I have so much to learn. But this situation with Covid and all that it has done has really struck a nerve. I just want things to get better but worry how easy it was to just shut everything down.
-
You are correct however there have been a few citations issued in my county even though we have only 6 total positive cases and three of those have already recovered and given the all clear. My point is the mandatory closing of business and most commercial "non essential activities" this HAS been enforced and caused possible un recoverable damage to our economy. We blew through a two plus four TRILLION dollar stimulus faster than my last roll of toilet paper. Debt on top of dept the potential for massive inflation is a real concern. I certainly don't want anyone to suffer from this let alone die but there have been many reports of inflated numbers of deaths attributed to covid19 for example in NY when they hit around 11 thousand they clearly listed that over 3700 were people that were quote un tested but they were listed as covid deaths. Also I am curious about the total lack of death being attributed to the flu this season I can't find any numbers and since we are not getting 100% testing done and with symptoms very similar I would bet dollars to doughnuts they are listed as covid caused and added to the totals. As for not setting a precedent well time will tell and please educate me if I'm wrong about the draft but didn't the US congress enact some kind of wartime legislation as per the constitution as opposed to state governments just forcing people to close their businesses with nothing more than some health official making a recommendation not even a debate within each states legislative body. Just a declaration of as of this date you are prohibited from this and that until further notice. totally un constitutional

Ours has an Stec 40 don't read many posts About that particular model but as I said before as a VFR flyer it is a real nice system very simple to operate
-
Fantastic, congrats to you sir. Hope your future relations with your new Mooney are a wonderful experience . Looks real nice can you provide some more photos

How on earth do you tie a cheap bastard to a bus sorry I couldn't help myself
-
You are correct Anthony our choices do, but that includes many things including flying our airplanes over densely populated areas. Look I know this situation is complicated but we have to be very very careful about how it will impact our freedom and for those of our children. There is a lot more at stake here than the sickness of our fellow man. Be well my friend

Just wondering if folks that have had their business impacted by this over reaching violation of our constitutional rights are in jeopardy of losing their beloved Mooney. I know some of you are professional pilots I sure hope and pray your doing OK. It doesn't look like anyone is willing to be the first to actually step up and let life start to return to normal. And we are hearing such Orwellian ideas of having to carry an immunity card in order to go out into public. I see that all the so called geniuses and their projections on how many people were going to die from this weren't even close. I know we're not out of the woods yet but how can you make such draconian predictions if you don't have the most important part of your math equation i.e., how many have been infected. Why has California had so few cases compared to areas on the eastern end of the country we have 40 million people in this state the most likely answer is that we were exposed to this virus possibly as early as last December and have already acquired some level of immunity. There are so many examples of regions in this country that have hardly any cases especially when you compare it to yearly average cases of the flu for shits sake and they have to follow to same blueprint as say NY City. This shutdown of the economy and of our constitutional rights is far far more deadly than a damn virus. All this social distancing has done is Delayed our only way to fight this infection by developing our bodies natural immunity through exposure like we do with every flu season. Are you willing to wait until next year in the hopes of a vaccine we have never been able to create one that is even close to being truly effective, ever. and now that we have allowed our government at every level to herd us like the sheep we are into a state of fear and self imposed quarantine we have created the precedent for the next viral threat perhaps this fall we will all just close our doors again that is if we are lucky enough to even be allowed to open them up ever again if it starts to get worse which is inevitable because we prevented our immunity by sheltering . I find it very concerning that the government gets to decide what is an essential business. I would think everyone's business that provides the ability to pay the bills and support your family is pretty F...ing essential to them. Absolute power corrupts absolutely is dangerously close. To all my fellow Mooney flyers please forgive my angry rant but I am so disheartened by how this has and is still playing out with no end in sight. i hope all of you are well

To the OP consider yourself lucky that you discovered Mooney space before purchasing your Mooney. I am in the minority of pilots on this site that is not instrument rated and do the vast majority of flights less than 200 miles from home. That said I am very happy that our C model has a working AP it's only a single axis but it only takes a few minutes to trim out in cruise and once done will hold ALT with very little attention. Once our heading is set via portable gps I engage the AP and can just relax and enjoy the flight with an occasional adjustment on the heading bug. It's also able to track VOR navigation so on the rare occasion we are following victor airways I can dial in the r-nav and fly right to each waypoint. I probably knew less about the airplane we bought than anyone ever in the history of airplane purchases and remember asking my CFI during transition training what this thing on the panel was and he said that's your AP. Oh, nice was my reply. On the very unlikely chance of flying VFR into IMC I am happy to know that I can direct a coordinated 180 turn by simply adjusting my heading bug back the way I came and if things were really bad would be able to follow ATC headings to get us out of danger. so even someone like me that fly's VFR out in California where weather prediction is super consistent it's nice to have the AP Good luck with your search and flight training

Not my Mooney but saw this one on the ramp and liked the tail art so snapped a picture. Perhaps the owner is on MS and could share a better photo. -
This whole thing has gotten me bloody well depressed. Any word on how Mooney space members Hyett and Gee Bee are doing. Hope they are getting better. I feel sad for people that don't know the joy of having a dog in their life. They are so uplifting good times or bad. Do what you need to do for yourself and those closest to you. We now have two cases in Lake county some guy brought it back from another county job site and has since given it to a family member. Both are quarantined hopefully will stop there. But when they get well they will be essentially immune. I still believe herd immunity is better it could take months or even years to develop a vaccine and until they do we will still be vulnerable and all of this effort will have been for nothing if there is another spike and folks that have lost their jobs or business that will be closed for good will suffer far worse. My heart goes out to all those that have suffered loss of life but unfortunately this is what we all face all the time pandemic or not. And as I said in an earlier post I fear that the next time we have another viral surge they will shut everything down again. If this is the new normal well that just sucks.

During my PPL flight training my CFI accused me of being a Naval Aviator in a previous life as I had a tendency to dive for the deck on landings. As a retired Air Force pilot and instructor I don't think he meant it as a compliment.
