  1. I have an Aspen and that will work OK
  2. Lot of good info here. If you look at older POH's you see they use 6 for the weight on the weight formula, somewhere along the line they changed the formula to 5.82. As you point out the actual W&B calculation has used 6lbs since forever. SO - as mentioned in another post never use the full fuel method. I am going to have the mechanic just calculate the new weight from the last known aircraft weight. If I ever put in the new CIES fuel senders I'll probably weigh it empty to get a good number. Thanks everyone. PS: you really cant use the FAA reference as you mention as the Service Manual calls for using the formula in the POH and the POH calls out the 5.82.
  3. We are weighing my 1990 M20J following removal of a bunch of equipment. Does anyone know why Mooney uses 5.82 lb for 100LL. This weird value results in nearly a 12lb difference depending on the selected weighing procedure. If you weigh it with full tanks you back out 64 gallons @ 5.82 or 372.5lbs. if you drain tanks and add in unusable fuel, 2.5 gallons @ 5.82 it adds in 14.55lbs. 100LL weighs 6.01. Full tank weighing procedure adds in an extra 11.5 pounds.... ???
  4. No debate, answer the question: can you take the plane whenever you want for as long as you want? If that is a requirement a shared plane is probably the wrong alternative. Otherwise, cost wise very difficult to beat cost sharing if expense is important.
  5. I have a ptt on co-pilot side. If I needed to I could plug in over there.
  6. And that gets to the heart of the matter, could not agree more.
  7. Don, I,m like you, 73 yo Cfii instructing for 20 year plus and loving it. Basically I think we have to wait it out and hope they develop a vaccine. What bummer!
  8. Talked to Don Maxwell today, he confirmed J model panel tilt is 0 degrees.
  9. I am going to put an RCAllen 2610 in as backup for my Aspen unit. I,m pretty sure the panel tilt is 0 degrees? (required info to order instrument). I have searched here no joy, does anyone know where this is documented or if you have put one in a M20J did you use zero?
  10. As I mentioned the other is like my speed brake light, it is really weak and hard to see in the day light. I wonder if someone made an improvement by installing a better light?? Maybe look under there and see if you can see where wires go and whether the green one is wired up to something or not.
  11. If you are talking about the yellow/green one, the smaller one then: it is the exact same light that I have that indicates the speed brakes are deployed. Should be lit when speed brakes are up and off when they are down. Does the red one indicate speed brake operation in your plane?
  12. Me too, bunch of Mooneys @ S50
  13. Recognition light replacement with LED bulb, direct replace to existing socket would be a killer.
  14. Pricey , have you seen this one RC Allen 2610
  15. These guys can fix you up, easier to replace with new. https://www.milspecproducts.com/home_
  16. What glue did you use to mate the foam?
  17. Instrument shop can repaint it. They might want to OH it though. Call around and see what they say.
  18. Its 33mb, could not email via comcast, had to send a link. Has schematics for most models, you have to select the schematic based on your serial number.
  19. I emailed you electrical section of maintenance manual.
  20. Pull the turn coordinator circuit breaker and see if the noise starts to away.
  21. How many of you are aware that the FAA is considering eliminating many ILS in favor of LPV. Reference latest Aviation Consumer or IFR magazine, cant remember which and dont have access to them now. Part of Nextgen cost cutting, just like VORs a number of ILS are on the chopping block.
  22. Try this. Find lowest price at a non airport location. Take uber or lyft to go get it. See how that affects your total sl cost. Major airports have tons of surcharges.
  23. Quoted $3000 for this mod at a MSC 18 months ago.
  24. Any update on using G5 as backup for a single Aspen Pro Max PFD? E5 yes , Pro Max depends on Avionic Shop, Best to call Aspen directly and ask question. Last time I checked Pacific Coast Avionics in Oregon wouldn't do it.
  25. Look at the install requirements and STC for the G5, there is some guidance there as to how it can be used.
