  1. I think you hit the nail on the head and he may be forcing it down. That's a no-no in any airplane but even more so in a Mooney (as we all know). I had trouble bouncing early on and I bought Don's video. It taught me to adjust my speed based on the conditions. Normal landing speed for me is 70 knots. If I'm alone and at half fuel or less, I reduce it to 65 and still have plenty of energy in the flare.
  2. That's great to hear! "Too much plane" was one of my main criteria in this project [emoji4] Great looking plane! Let us know where the useful load comes in. I'm very curious. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Mine is always showing a 2-2.5 degree climb when in level flight. I've researched it and found this is a common problem that the owner cannot adjust. The installers can go into the back end settings and correct this I'm told.
  4. Looks great. I have one on order and just waiting to get into the shop for install. I'm pulling the vacuum system and standby at that time as well. Very interested to see how much useful load I'll gain. I'm hoping for 8-10 lbs but that may be wishful thinking. Keep us posted on how you like it and if any issues arise. -Kevin
  5. I added a 530W to my panel that had a 430 that I upgraded to waas a year before. I was told for the boxes to crossfill they both need to be the same (both waas or non-waas). Keep in mind by upgrading the 430 to waas it will get a faster processor and also be supported by Garmin far into the future. The upgrade is more of an overhaul I believe. Here's some info from Garmin. http://www.garmin.com/us/products/intheair/waasupgrade?#fragment-1
  6. Like a some of the other guys said, get an expert opinion from someone who has no connection to the shop where the damage happened. You need a guy who is completely independent and you might even consider getting two opinions. Accidents happen, I get that. How they handle it will reveal the type of shop they are. I'm very curious where this happened.
  7. Before you install the passenger seat you should remove the pilot side and switch them. Someone here recommended this so the wear is evened out. Made sense to me so that's what I did. The guys here are correct; a little more of a hassle going back in. Make sure both sides of the seat track are in place with a flashlight. I made that mistake and discovered it in the air.
  8. I did this today before I fired it up and the button works perfectly. I don't know if this is a temporary fix or not but as of now it switches frequencies normally. Thanks for the tip; you saved me $1,100!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. I can hear the click. I plan to fly it today so I'll try pressing it a hundred times or so before I power it up and see if that works. Worth a shot. Thanks for all the input guys.
  10. Thanks for that. The CRC is exactly what I have!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. I thought about that but too nervous to try it without hearing some success with it.
  12. I've been having an issue with the comm flip/flop button on my 530. It doesn't seem to be making good contact and requiring my to press it two or three times to get the standby frequency to switch over. It's kind of sporadic; it might work on the first press and then take two or three the next time. I called my avionics shop and he said it needs a new face plate. $1,100 flat rate repair that Garmin performs. Does anyone know of any other options before I send it in?
  13. I have a Lowrance Airmap 300 with a yoke mount and other accessories I want to get rid of. I works fine but from what I understand updates are no longer available. In lieu of just pitching it I am offering this free to anyone who might have a use for it. It would work well as a basic VFR gps, just don't rely on info such as radio frequencies, etc. Let me know if anyone is interested and I'll send it out UPS today.
  14. Totally agree with mooneymite. The fair market value of a J has a direct correlation on the market of your E (and most other models as well). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Later this year I'm replacing my backup attitude indicator with the Sandia Quattro. For primary I have the Aspen PFD and because I opted for the EA100 digital to analog autopilot converter my AP gets all the attitude input from the Aspen. When the Sandia goes in I'm removing the vacuum pump and precise flight vacuum backup. I will pick up a little useful load and be all electric. http://sandia.aero/product/sai-340-quattro/
  16. I've owned a 82 J for almost three years now. I knew when I bought it the tanks have never been resealed and know I'm on borrowed time. I have this mild odor like you describe in the cabin as well. I always thought the tanks were good until they're leaking visibly from the bottom of the wing. Judging from your post I may need this done sooner than later. I actually bought my bird from Tim up at Wilmar so that's where I'll go as well if/when needed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Completely jealous...I'll admit it. What a great looking panel.
  18. I was told this once before and it didn't work for me. Perhaps something is wrong with the wiring in mine but I'll try again. I'd sure like to be able to run the nav lights with a clearly visible gear indicator. Mine is very dim with nav lights on.
  19. I thought this was odd as well when I first started flying my Mooney. I thought there was a problem until I flipped the nav light off. This setup suggests leaving the nav lights off during daytime flight. Not sure that's a good idea...
  20. The most recent issue of Aviation Consumer magazine has the 430W as a best buy for a used GPS. The article reads that Garmin will support the 430/530 "well into the future". Just read this last weekend.
  21. I bought his 530W last year. The transaction was very smooth the box looks good works perfectly. (I feel like I'm writing ebay feedback but just want to put that out there). http://mooneyspace.com/gallery/image/36498-co-pilot/
  22. I had mine done about a year ago and found a noticeable difference. It even sounded different when I took off. Perhaps mine was just really bad. In any case I'm a big fan of dynamic prop balancing.
  23. You'll never completely justify the upgrade weighing cost versus use and added capability but you'll enjoy using it and won't regret it. If you have the box and all you're really talking about is the install, I'd do it. It stings; trust me, I know.
