  1. I spoke with one of the other fire departments located in the Houston area, but they don't cover Hooks airport. He said they carry both A and B foam on the trucks. We only carry A but we are rural fire department and 90% of our fire calls are grass and hay. I have run more traffic calls in the last couple of weeks. The one yesterday was energized car after the truck took out a power pole. It was a little harder to tell because the hot wire fell across the barbed wire and burned through the top strand. So all the barb wire was energized (metal T posts) the metal pipe fence (just finished it a couple of weeks ago) and the truck was touching the metal pipe fence. 1 person transported.
  2. Hooks is where this happened. They don't have AARF on the field, so it was a local fire departments. Not sure what they would have on the trucks for that department. Practice is not to foam the runways these days. We carry class A for most every thing we do. Dawn soap makes a really good foaming agent I have used it in a pressure washer and put out oil fires. As we know Dawn is also corrosive to aluminum.
  3. @donkaye, MCFI reading through your description we are saying the same speeds and techniques for base and final. The difference being gear down and half flaps at the threshold. My goal is to not use speed brakes. They are a nice tool to have in the bag of pilot tricks. I agree that it will take 20-30 landings and flying multiple days in a row will be the ticket to good landings. We had the talk about if I am safe after the second session and 7 or 8 landings and he said yes. I figure if he can certify the Mooney Predator, I will be just fine.
  4. That's not how foam works. Foam floats on top of the oil to cut off oxygen to the fire. And yes i used foam yesterday. For a brush pile. If it was Class B foam it is corrosive to aluminum.
  5. As a currently in Transition to the S model. I think the Long Bodies land much nicer that the medium bodies. But that requires the proper set up. If the F you can come in full speed throw the gear down at the threshold and make a nice landing. The S requires set up 10 miles out. Start reducing throttle. 100 - pattern, 90- Base, 80- Final - 12 inches Gear out and half flaps at the threshold - trim Full flaps on base more trim reduce throttle The bigger slippery models don't do two things at once go down and slow down. a bit lower approach say three red one white. If you are high, I was told that you could point at the fence and not really gain alot of speed. This works to get down lower All the flying happens in the landing. The key is continuing to pull back on the yoke after hopefully dissipating all the energy. I got a "you land really good" on my second landing. An almost starting PIO on my 5th landing. On my 10th landing with 4 solo landings. 2 were direct crosswind. Getting better, will probably take 25 to 30 to get above acceptable level. They do land really nice with most of the energy out of the wings. Getting them slowed down is the key.
  6. It's almost in the middle of the belly. and pretty far back.
  7. You could probably find it at NAPA. or B&C makes a good product. https://bandc.com/product/bc315-starter-stc-pma/
  8. How often do you repack the wheel bearings on your car?
  9. Homer dan will carry the tinted acrylic, it would by a little bit thicker, drilling a bunch of holes to then file down the square hole would probably crack it. I would go with HDPE. Funny enough you can get that at WalMart as a cutting board. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Thyme-Table-Bar-Board-with-Knife-2-Piece-Set/1397835578?classType=REGULAR&adsRedirect=true Or you could get the more flexible ones in cool colors. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Extra-Thick-Flexible-Cutting-Boards-Kitchen-Cutting-Mats-Cooking-Colored-Cutting-Mat-Set-Non-Slip-Cutting-Sheets-Flexible-Plastic-Cutting-Board-Set-3/599196679?classType=VARIANT&from=/search
  10. I ordered the 48109-2 because I think that is what is on there. But the application guide on Spruce says 48108 for the Ovation. I don't recall there being a clearance issue. There there is this letter. https://aeroaccessories.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Letter-of-ENG-Concurrence-AA48108-2-AA48109-Interchangeability-S53.pdf
  11. small threads, soft metal, I would have to take it off and put it on the drill press and use a centering end point to make it work and would probably still fubar it. I would buy 2 start it with the unground one or a regular. Then use the ground one to finish up. But I am going to be really pissed at the shop after I spent a day fixing it and they gorilla hand it and strip them out again. I still like the jb weld idea. To the point of coating a screw with grease. Fill hole with Jb weld. put screw in hole and let dry. Form a threads. take like half an hour and if it works great, otherwise fill it up again and drill and tap.
  12. My Grandfather who owned 20 plus hammers because there is always the right tool for the job would berate you for your heresy . it's not that hard to find them anymore with online ordering. https://www.mscdirect.com/browse/tn/Threading/Taps?navid=2105965&rdrct=taps 10 years ago the struggle was real.
  13. It was the least snarky reply I could come up with and was the like 4th thing in the google search after doing a right click search. Other snarky replies I thought of: 1 RTFM 2. how hard would it be to go stick your digital caliper in the hole and know for sure. 3. As if you are going to find a bottom tap to fix it 4. I kind of liked the JB weld response. 5. Rotate a couple of degrees and drill 3 new holes. See number 3 about a bottom tap 6. Since they are magnesium you have the added issue of lighting your plane on fire. 7. Are the covers even necessary? They are to the inside while the wheel is up.

  15. Above is more my understanding that the FSDO will always refer to the Portland Autopilot Office. There seems to be more restrictive language about Autopilots and the Boeing 737 Max AP issue exasperated the problem. My friend's Baron getting the Dynon Autopilot waited for 6 months because a hole location was moved on a Servo Bracket. DER signed it off. Apparently the completed paperwork waited on one guys desk for the majority of the 6 months just needing a signature.
  16. I see two screw ups. What you learn as best practice is to use your left hand around the shaft of the screw driver to hold it on the screw. makes it virtually impossible to do that slip. Second and I know this because I had a file slip on the Sherriff's new car when I was installing an antenna.... I used a black sharpie to fix that. Is that between Testors model paint and finger nail polish you can match most colors. A model paint brush and most anyone could do a paint repair better than that. Sheesh. The paint guys can make it go away. Get a quote and send him a bill.
  17. yep and they have batteries also. really fast shipping.
  18. Like what kind of noise? A whine or static. If it's a whine, then bad ground to engine-airframe. if static then bad antenna coax or remove and clean antenna to airframe contact point. if that does not work, then replace coax with RG400. Was it wet out?
  19. They are in the back of the manual, but it does not matter since they are all not usable. take a panel and have it color matched.

    Flew over Denali

Awesome video. There are people who have visited Denali multiple times and never seen it due to clouds. You are blessed. I wish I could find it, but there is an account of a sightseeing Beaver that got in some turbulence around Denali,
  21. Say a 1975F has a big ol noise suppression unit on the passenger bulk head.
  22. Belt sanders mess up things very quickly. I would probably get a piece of oak the correct height that you could side around inside the circle. Then clamp a Utility knife blade to it to cut the plastic at a right angle. Or using the same concept of making a jig to slide around inside the hole. clamp a dremel tool to the jig with rotary bit to it like a mini vertical mill. A little less stable, but more adjustable cut half out base here and use it. https://www.lowes.com/pd/Dremel-1-8-in-Rotary-Tool-Cutting-Kit/1092895?store=3032&cm_mmc=shp-_-c-_-prd-_-tol-_-ggl-_-PMAX_TOL_000_Priority_Item-_-1092895-_-local-_-0-_-0&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=21218097027&gclid=CjwKCAjw4efDBhATEiwAaDBpbhhPaHqzemAf2pNh60gIR6vXDZ8LIEwiLWREJ87F4hXik5Z8x1BEkxoCjIYQAvD_BwE lots of chips will fly, but should get good consistent level cut.
  23. The take off was explained to me like this by Mooney Safety Instructor. Lift off, gear up, dip level for a second to pick up speed and get the wing flying, then go up. The Mooney wing needs good airflow to get flying. Go around should be the same. first off due to habit. I had this conversation with the another Safety Instructor last Thursday. The key being to fly level/aviating after applying power after a go around instead of trying to go up. Collect your wits about you then start doing things like gear up then flaps up. Mooney wing airfoils are NACA 63-215 wing root and NACA 64-412 at the tip The Beechcraft Bonanza does not have a specific, named airfoil. Instead, it utilizes a modified NACA 23015 airfoil
  24. . am going to give points for consistancy
