  1. Yep. that looks to be more "normal" operating zone. It should go up a little with the boost pump(assuming the boost pump is working) If it jumps a little when you turn the boost pump on, then it is the gauge if it jumps alot then it is the mechanical pump. When you prime the engine with the boost pump does the pressure hold or does it leak down pretty quick? After annual I took it up to 5000AGL and saw the pressure do a jump, came down and did a leak down test on the ground. A new pump for me.
  2. The test is what happens when you turn on the electric pump. If it jumps to the white line then time for a mechanical pump.
  3. Turned a 2.5 hour drive into a 45 min flight to go see my former flight instructor who is now a seaplane pilot in Juneau. Things noted. "This is all the travel?" while playing the flight controls. me "That is all it needs" The control inputs of yanking a Beaver off the water does not work so well in flying a Mooney off the runway. He pretty much got the landing... a little hop. The wife was reminded of the benefits of fast air travel
  4. Slip is not just for speed it is good for altitude loss also. On my checkride, on sim engine out I was high. Since I was talking everything out loud. "Looks like I am high" Examiner "what are" I was already throwing the plane to a forward slip. I was taught to use the rudder inputs to move left and right to line up the runway or cows in the field. They always seemed very stable in the C172. there is a lot of nose down angle you need to put in a Mooney. My mooney transition instructor tried to save my very high first engine out at the field attempt with a forward slip. Depending on which side you do it to you are shadowing the pitot tube. So airspeed may not be as indicated, so better to feel the plane. Holding it all the way to the runway and transitioning takes some pretty good piloting. It does look very cool when done properly. defiantly need to feel the airspeed.

  6. Slips are also good to work to a 1 main wheel landing. very stable. keeps the upwind wing out of the wind. Requires side friction on the wheel to work, don't try on icy runways. have not tried one in the mooney
  7. I still want to know if you get a new cylinder or something for a $7AMU annual. Nice plane! fast is fun
  8. Left house at 4:20 pm get plane out take for a lap around the pattern (changed oil last week, needed to make sure all was good) Land and refuel. Clean windows, polish spinner, Returned to house at 5:10 Not everyone can just go fly ready to launch tomorrow over to Lufkin to see my former flight instructor who now flys planes in Alsaska
  9. I was suggesting a non perpetrating install picture.....
  10. I would bet a dollar that the mechanic is young and newer. There are people who can troubleshoot a system and people who start replacing parts hoping something will fix it. Troubleshooting is hard.
  11. who is going to go out and take some access panel screws out and take a picture?
  12. "I get a call from my mechanic saying that they are having trouble getting the plane started." It would be really hard not to say something like "maybe you should call a mechanic to help you, because that is what my friends tell me to do on the interweb"
  13. I would think a C172 at 50-100 AGL could go where ever it wanted to
  14. A year ago I got a new one from Air Power for right at 2 AMU
  15. stop it you are making me misty
  16. OH and who is watching the TFR while they are refueling? If you point a cop radar gun at the F-15 will it set off the laser lock alerts?
  17. So ignoring Posse Comitatus. Where do the bullets land when they fire off rounds at a drone? For that matter where does the c172 parts land after getting hit by a sidewinder? It's a 32 mile TFR how long does it take to get across it going supersonic? And who is watching the airspace while the decoy plane is being escorted to land? And did they plane for a Japanese Balloon type attack? Security theater with emphasis on theater
  18. do they all need to be done? Probably just #3 to start with. Buy one new, then rotate around fixing the worst one or two at a time.
  19. Thanks for the help. How often should anti seize be applied? Annual time or oil change?
  20. so can someone correct me? That looks like a slip joint? does a slip joint maybe just need cleaning? Put some mouse milk in there, take it apart, clean the gunk out, put some mouse milk on it and put it back together. Then when it heats up, it should seal up.
  21. The joy of CA. In most states they would stick a flare in there and light it off. Sure that there is no way to get the permits to do that in CA. The other weird thing is having high pressure gas that has odorant in it. Most states don't have the odorizer till after the town station.
  22. There are a fair amount of caps for sale on flea bay
  23. There are 3 o-ring per side. Two of them are 010 and seal the shaft. Then an 338 for the outer ring. The shaft of the lever is steel so some emery cloth can clean that up. I used Jet Lube to keep things smooth They should not be hard to open. They are easy to service. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00138384I?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0055E1RLM?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009CFNL46?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00
  24. For a new concept, I am farther away from the yoke and panel and closer to the roof. I wanted something that was out of scan but closer to my face. The verdict is out, but it is still in the plane. Pretty much in the way of the radios, but very viewable by passenger and pilot. It is clamped where the throttle cables are held on the co pilots side. There is a welded cross piece for the tube structure. http://www.dx.com/p/lr360-universal-360-degree-rotating-holder-for-tablet-pc-black-233173#.VrNNCFn__EY
