  2. So if they sell oil by weight... and Corrosion x is some form of Automatic Transmission fluid mixed with mineral spirits... Do you have to update your weight and balance after application?
  3. So you were running mineral oil... so you had an engine swap out say 25 hours ago... so the mixture and throttle cables have been disconnected recently during the engine swap... so they probably did not get tightened up/have slipped loose/need to be fine tune adjusted. Don't fly it if you go to idle and the engine dies. That is a run up checklist item.
  4. Might find something of interest here... http://mooney.free.fr/Manuels%20M20J/M20J/Mooney%20Service%20Manuel%20M20J%20Vol.%202%20of%202.pdf
  5. It's just like high school, someone will always have a faster car or a louder radio.... A Falcon 7 did a low pass over the airport the other day probably spent my whole yearly fuel budget doing it. It was fun to watch.
  6. He has never flown a quad copter that lost a motor. They fall amazingly fast. being able to sync the rpms is hard with engines. Easier with electric motors
  7. One of the two best days
  8. Interesting note. Sun visors are on the equipment list with the radios and such
  9. Mostly from the North all weekend in Texas
  10. Possibly a SW Texas cowl. http://www.swta.net/

  12. It is emitting from that screw. I have found that silcone spray makes for a good cleaner. spray down, wipe, tighten that screw.
  13. Sounds like you are learning to fly the plane vs. operate it. Doing percentage power is a little weird since most planes don't have that unless you are doing it in your head. It also seems to make things more complex than needed. In Training we were doing multiple speeds for places in the pattern, then the chief instructor said do 75 knots for downwind, base and final. OK was not a big deal.
  14. The valve cover leaks are easily fixed with silicone ones. It take a while to get the old cork gasket off and everything really clean. but it is 4 screws per cylinder. Exhaust gasket leaks are not hard either. Buy some new studs, gaskets and mouse milk for the slip tubes. Remove, clean everything up with some emery cloth mouse milk everything. reinstall and torque properly What condition were the hoses in? It is 1.1 AMUs in USD to buy a new set...

  16. If it is mis fuel incident. happened recently in Texas. The ramp people see the 421 and think it is a King Air 90.
  17. So at some point could the sign off be. Using the performance data from other installed certified aircraft applications, deem this to be airworthy in this plane.
  18. Nope crome / polished spinners make it fast
  19. no insulation on the back of the panels in mine
  20. Steel wool would be bad, steel brush would be bad.... which I said stainless brush. Not sure it is best, but I believe a stainless brush can be used for prepping Alum for welding. Alum is hard to weld properly due mostly to prep work. Always open to learning new things.
  21. Ace Hardware had 1/2 inch round foam expansion joint filler like you use in your driveway expansion joints then apply caulk. It seemed the best fit for the channel around the panel. With a liberal application of contact cement it goes in quite well. I have not had the plane in the rain, but I can't see rain getting under it. I have had the panels off a couple of times and the foam seems to hold up well. Better than the old gunk that was in there. It was contact cement holding the gunk on from the factory. A small stainless brush helped to get that out.
  22. I got knocked around twice on flare. So I put a wing down and no more drama on the flare. Did you try putting a wing down into the wind? Half flaps or full?
  23. sorry I meant serial number The schematics are by serial number. I found the J ones online here: http://mooney.free.fr/Manuels%20M20J/M20J/Mooney%20Service%20Manuel%20M20J%20Vol.%202%20of%202.pdf
  24. The schematic I am looking at has a filter on the Alternator circuit and a Shunt on the Alternator Circuit. The Low voltage detector is downstream of the shunt that then goes into the Accessory Panel plug.
  25. What year and model number J?
