I had a spinner listed here and on Ebay recently. Sold it. Didn't fit a Hartzell as mentioned above. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

That's more than twice what my set (M20J) cost in 2014. I'd expect the price to have increased but... Also, his valve cover gaskets are awesome. I imagine your IO550 set is more substantial and more costly than an IO360 set. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

You got me to wondering so I checked my last 5 flights and see nothing so dramatic. My FF always jiggles around a bit but never shows a significant drop unless I instigate it (see graph below). Is there some chance your mixture cable isn't secured well or has excess slop? The answer you seek isn't really obvious. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Dynon EFIS now approved for M20 as primary OR backup.
cnoe replied to cnoe's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
I too applaud the progress we're seeing but without legal AP integration I wouldn't install either of the Dynon units as a primary instrument. But if I already had (or was seriously considering) an Aspen I'd gladly install the D10A as a backup in order to remove the vacuum system. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -
+1 on Guy's baffle sets. 3 1/2 years later and still look/work great! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Aspen replaces the DG. Dynon is only primary as AI. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -

If you don't need vac for AP then I believe the answer is finally YES. From the Dynon FAQ: Can I remove my DG / Vacuum Pump? If an installed directional gyro is not required equipment per your aircraft’s type certificate, it can be removed (whether or not you are installing a Dynon EFIS). After you remove your DG and install a Dynon EFIS under this STC, your vacuum system may not be connected to any instruments. If this is the case, it can be removed too. Not British but my '66 Karmann Ghia had a 6V generator/electrical system. As mentioned in previous posts gremlins tend to rear their ugly heads in low-voltage systems such as 6 volt cars and 12 volt planes. Good grounds are imperative. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

And if you cannot confirm/verify completion of SB208B then add some time/cost to the pre-buy. It's important and the subject of a recent thread here. Edit: For your reading pleasure... http://www.mooney.com/en/sb/M20-208B.pdf Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

That's probably the best explanation why my speed is the same whether near-empty or loaded up with my thin wife, heavy dog, and baggage to the ceiling. The extra 300# is offset by the rearward shift in CG. I've been using the WnB Pro app for a few years and makes these exercises fun. I'm still chuckling at the image of you in the left seat, slid all the way back, reclined.[emoji846] Visual scans are highly overrated anyway! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Feel like an idiot...fuel selector valve
cnoe replied to Oscar Avalle's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
I added this to my tool collection in 2016 to gain a better feel for tightening rocker cover screws. The price was low enough I hope to retain my membership in the CB club. https://www.amazon.com/Wheeler-Firearms-Accurizing-Torque-Wrench/dp/B0012AXR4S Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -
I'm curious about all the "rigging" talk. I have no complaints about my J's average speed; 150-160 kts depending on settings. But if I could gain 3-4 knots by simply raising the ailerons a couple degrees then why not. Still I understand that the earlier models (mine's a '78) aren't as fast as the newer ones so I may not gain that much. I'm not spending money on the one-piece belly etc. Again, 150 KTAS at 9.0 gph is fine, but if there's some "free speed" I'm missing out on then please speak up. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Did you check the ground at the sender? Some senders ground via the clamp that holds the sender in place. Mine got wonky once and was easily remedied by cleaning (sanding) the body/strap interface. And it doesn't hurt to apply a light coat of contact cleaner or dielectric silicone grease in the connection to prevent future corrosion. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Garmin factory refurbishment - good as new?
cnoe replied to tigers2007's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
Note that Garmin requires these to be returned through an authorized dealer who must request an RMA from Garmin prior to its return. The dealer will specify what issues there are when requesting the RMA. So be sure to tell them EVERYTHING that needs attention such as sticky buttons, bad dials, scratched screen, any error messages etc. so that you get a like-new unit back. Any used unit without a fresh 8130 tag FROM GARMIN should be instantly discounted by ~$1,000 'cause you have no idea what you're buying until you've used it for a year IMO. The pure PLBs such as an Artex ResQLink transmits a 406 signal, a GPS location, AND a 121.5 signal. Your position can be narrowed to a ~2.5 mile radius with the 406 beacon alone; with the GPS data and 121.5 signal you WILL be found. These are not for maintaining contact with loved ones or for tracking a flight. They are for emergency location use only but perform that function very well with NO subscription costs. Having both would be great but if I had to choose one, personally I'd opt for the true PLB. I carry one at all times in a "crash bag" along with several other survival items (in addition to the fixed-mount 406 ELT in the empennage). It makes me feel a bit safer, especially on my flights through New Mexico and Colorado. Here's a link that describes how the rescue process works using these units: https://www.acrartex.com/info/search-and-rescue/ Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

So... who's going to bring up the whole J-bar vs. electric issue? The guy has a right to know how superior the EG is.[emoji846] Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

To IFR or Not IFR - that is the question.
cnoe replied to Wildhorsesracing's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
I'll play devil's advocate here and offer that if you don't succumb to the pressures to fly when conditions aren't appropriate, and your schedule/job allows you the flexibility to take a relaxed pace then there's nothing wrong with forgoing the IR. In fact you could fly 50,000-60,000 miles (fuel cost) in my plane for what you'd spend in training. You could see much of this great country and still learn a lot about weather while doing so, just don't get in a hurry. With that being said getting my IR was one of the most rewarding things I've ever done and it's made me a better and safer pilot. I don't have the patience or time to sit on the ground waiting out marginal (VFR) weather and no longer do I find myself flying VFR over-the-top or 2,000 agl under-the-bottom. Best of luck with your decision. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -
I'm pretty sure that's not a $10AMU paint job. Very nice! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

I got this via e-mail today ... This is from the owners of the FBO & Diner. Neither Jack nor I are very Facebook savvy. When I did my weekly email check (I don't do that very much either) I was bombarded with Facebook messages from so many people who commented and wrote such kind things about our little Diner. WOW, the out-pour is enough to have turned us into balling babies. Jack often said (when we would get a compliment from someone about the Diner) that we worked for compliments in lieu of pay! Today we feel rich! To see our dream come true, to see so many people gather with their families and friends, enjoying themselves is more than we can put into words. Often we would sit at a table to eat lunch ourself, we would look around at all the commotion, families getting together, the laughter, pilots planning their next trip. Jack would grab my hand and tell me "we did it kiddo, look around, isn't this great, so many people coming together enjoying themselves at our little Diner". Every change that we made (i.e. closing at nights) was to keep it going. With the down turn in the economy from the oil business we lost many of our clients that flew in and purchased fuel; which in turn allowed us to subsidize the Diner. God willing, if the economy turns around, we hope to come back, in some capacity. Thank you all for your kind writings. I don't know how to reach everyone that has written, so I hope this note spreads as did our announcement. My heart feels comfort in knowing you enjoyed the Diner, yet breaks to know it's an end to our dream......Jack says NOT, and he is always right, just ask him. Thank you, everyone who has taken the time to call or to post a message. We feel truly blessed. Jack & Janet Southern Flyer Diner

Want to replace my old rotating beacon with led strobe

Do the new LED strobes cause noise, or just the traditional strobes? One day... sigh. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
