  1. I'm on my 2nd year with Starr. I purchased my M20F January 22. 2013. 4 months after getting my PPL, with 125 hours TT 0 Mooney & 0 complex Starr came in at just over $1800 with 60k on the hull. I just renewed this year with Starr at just over $1700 with about 35 hours in my Mooney. Falcon came in about $150 cheaper but I stayed with my broker and Starr since he was local.
  2. Autozone has lots of choices for aluminum polish. Just make sure you don't get chrome polish. A cordless power drill and a polishing tip aught to do the trick. Its not easy and very time consuming. Extra batteries and some shop rags will help too lots of black stuff will get all over the place. I took mine home to polish it, had my wife and daughter help too
  3. I have a 430 non wass and would like to upgrade to a 530 or even better 750 if possible. When I say possible I mean realistic price. I heard numbers like 10k for a 530 and 15k for a 750 installed. That's just a little heavy for me right now. I heard the installation is what gets you $$ and the down time.
  4. Great video !!! Loved it.
  5. Has anyone compared the Halo headset to the Bose A20. I have the Bose but have been considering getting the Halos because my ears get sweaty on long flights. Would I be sacrificing sound quality for comfort?
  6. I got my PPL Sept 22 2012. On Jan 22 2013 I purchased My M20F with only 125 hours of total flying time, I can't say it was easy since there were no Mooney CFI's in Memphis but with 15 hours of duel and 10 more solo and $1800 for my first year of insurance I made it thrugh. Would I recommend you do the same? Lets see $250 per month X 11 months $2,750 + $2000 annual +$2500 in upgrades and repairs along the way=$7250.00 Divide that by the 38 hours I was able to fly and you get $190.79 per hour. The fact that its my bird and I can proudly say she's mine is priceless.
  7. In the 50's in Memphis today, the weather was so nice I had to take the mistress out for a spin.
  8. Too bad you don't live in the Memphis area. Ft. Lauderdale/Pompano Beach is my favorite hangout, I lived there for 3 years. I would love to fly around there.
  9. MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEARS FROM MEMPHIS
  10. Aman
  11. That was super cool.
  12. That was me with the ski tube in my 68F. I'm thinking about having it removed, I don't ski and I hate cold weather. It will be up for grabs on Mooneyspace when I do.
  13. They can ransack my house, I will make sure not to feed the Doberman for a couple of days so he will be eager to welcome you in. Oh and he doesn't bark either. I guess I will save on dog food that week to pay for the avgas.
  14. Have they been loaded into a computer? The Cessna course I purchased for my PPL once loaded into my laptop would not work in my desktop or any other computer.
  15. Did you send the unit to them or did you fly there and let them do all the work? I have a Brittain B-5 in my 68F and I can't seem to get it to act right and the altitude hold doesn't hold either.
  16. Mine has a tear about the size of my pinkie , we discovered it during my annual. My IA did not seem to think it was a big deal, but I still would like to get it replaced.
  17. I also would like to say thank you. This is the best for any Mooney owner, especially for one like me that has never owned an airplane.
  18. I lost my landing light 200-300 feet from the runway on final 8 days ago at 11pm. It was my 2nd night landing in my new to me M20F.
  19. Thank you for the advice, I actually feel better now since the last 23 hours I was leaning more aggressively (with a different instructor) and he never mentioned anything about the egt's being too hot. This time I had a 4 hour flight in IFR conditions so I needed a safety pilot to go with me on that business trip and back. It was a great experience flying in the clouds.
  20. I noticed all your exhaust temps were way over 1400 and even reached 1500. My flight instructor told me to never let your exhaust temperature exceed 1400. I am confused, I know I'm a new pilot with my first airplane. Could Cessna's be different from Mooney's. I was running in the mid to high 300 cylinder temps and high 1300 on the exhaust getting 12.5 gal per hour. No Gammi's ether. I would love to see 9 gal per hour. That would have saved me 24 gallons on my flight to Tampa and back last week.
  21. So in other words brighter or dimmer you are still drawing the same amps? I have always been under the impression dimmer = less draw.
  22. Thanks Matt, I will give Aircraft Spruce a call today.
  23. I lust had the scariest landing of my life, last Monday at 11pm 200 feet from the runway my landing light decides it has had enough. It felt like landing into a black hole, thank god everything went well but now with this experience I want a LED landing light. I currently have a PAR46 4522 bulb.Sarasota Aviation wanted $518 that seemed expensive. Does anyone have a better source? Any help would be appreciated.
