  1. On the plus side, that may be because we tend to have fewer issues…
  2. The engineering data is the hard part, the STC is just patiently waiting for the FAA to approve it. As a one-time field approval, that time is significantly less. I wonder if purchasing the engineering data from Tim Coons but not the STC’s could get around some of the stickier bankruptcy issues.
  3. I went to hear him talk more than once at OSH. Sorry to hear he passed, very glad I was able to hear him speak.
  4. I’m pretty sure hais was making a joke.
  5. Actually, my remote filter uses the 48109 also. I’ve had the Champion 48109 filter on order since May, I ordered a Tempest in September and already received it. The Champion is the one that is taking 9 months (and counting). Looks to be another reason to drop anything manufactured by Champion.
  6. Well, that means I was in line 4 full months before you and my order has been pushed off to February. Something ain’t right… I wonder if orders for cases of filters is filled differently from individual ones. Still not right.
  7. I think my biggest issue is that I have a remote mounted oil filter, so I use a slightly different filter than others. They seem to be clearing the backlog with the most popular filters first.
  8. Yeah, no kidding, everyone knows that, I’m not complaining about Aircraft Spruce for Champion supply chain issues. As I said in my post, I was wondering if anyone could beat 9 months (or as you would say, have been in line for 9 months).
  9. I wonder, can anyone beat 9 months (and counting) for a single oil filter? And I love how they make it so easy to “Buy It Again” and begin a new 9-month wait…
  10. Yes. I’m not sure if it was the previous owner who flew off his 1400’ grass strip on his Texas ranch, or me flying into my 2000’ asphalt and making the first turn off (about 1100’). And mine’s an M20C, not a long body that sits tail low. This is mine:
  11. It’s a paint stick, for Pete’s sake. You might be expecting more accuracy than a free, home-made fuel stick is capable of providing. This, BTW, is mine. More than 10 years old and still looks brand new. Free Lowes paint stick and ball point pen.
  12. @201er has pictures…
  13. It may be time to agree to disagree, and just drop the whole thing.
  14. It seems that if anyone has taken offense at the theft of intellectual property, the complaint should be made to the Argentine government and not Matias. He is simply attempting to modify his airplane in accordance with his government’s rules. Even in the US, you don’t have to purchase an STC to modify your airplane. You could get a field approval- but you’d have to go through the hassle of providing the engineering data. Evidently Argentina doesn’t require that. And frankly, Matias would probably be willing to pay for the STC for converting his airplane to the IO-550, except that STC is an orphan and no longer available for sale. And the 310 HP STC doesn’t apply to his M20L, only the M20R.
  15. Way to go, Hammdo!
  16. In a couple of weeks, I may have you beat…
  17. Actually, the unkind posts were his. He would regularly tell folks here that the hoses/seals/materials that they installed were junk and that their A&Ps were incompetent because they installed them. A few of us pointed out (me included) that Gibney made good products but he didn’t have to denigrate others in order to sell more of his stuff. Evidently he got his feelings hurt and left.
  18. No, not even a little bit. Graduated from West Point, did more crazy stuff as an Infantry Officer than you can imagine (along with memories I wouldn’t trade). But the bonus is that I now have the job most of your flying buddies wanted: seriously well-paid airline captain with more days off than I know what to do with.
  19. Unfortunately you just gave Pinecone another opportunity to remind all of us that he flew jets in the military.
  20. That’s a really great write up. I hope a friend of mine- @T. Peterson - reads it also.
  21. You don’t have to look at a Husky, just look at your Mooney wing and its flap attachments.
  22. Same difference: how can you be 100% sure that when they say “as filed” that they actually received your amendment? I’d rather be sure. Making amendments or re-filing simply to hear the magical “Cleared as filed” seems like a waste of time and adds ambiguity to a procedure that is supposed to remove ambiguity. That’s exactly my point. As midlifeflyer pointed out previously: “Copying and reading back a long clearance you already know is not that bad.”
  23. ⬆️⬆️⬆️. Total agreement with Mark. If you file more than one flight plan and you get cleared “as filed”, how can you be 100% sure which flight plan they’re clearing you for? I’d rather read back a long clearance (that I’m expecting due to FlightAware) and be sure.
  24. @steingar might be able to give some advice.
