Funny conversation between controllers
Hector replied to yvesg's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
If real, that was just funny! That being said, when I use FF here in the sunshine state I get vectors all the time! Not only that, but I fully expect it. It's the reason I use FF! I welcome a vector that will steer me clear of traffic and if it helps ATC for IFR traffic separation then that's fine with me. I figure it's the price I pay for those guys to keep an eye on me as well. -
I'll contribute $50 for the pizza as well.
-
Was thinking exactly the same.
-
Congrats. I'm in my fifth year of ownership on a 67 C and absolutely love the plane.
-
SO theres 100$ right there for beer. Thats a good start. Make it $150. I'm in for $50 too. (I'm fine with Blue Moon or whatever). Yves.....I'm assuming you are making the arrangements for the keg?
-
I'll put in some money for a keg. I'm good for 50$. Set it up. This will be my first time flying into Oshkosh so I'm not sure how to set this up. I'm wondering if I could get one of the food vendors to set it up. I'll make some calls.

Only got sick once in a small plane. I was sitting in the back seat of a Cherokee 6 on a hot summer day in south Florida eating a large bag of Doritos while my buddy was doing steep turns and accelerated stalls. I started complaining but he was not listening. I bet that Cherokee still smells like Doritos.

Crap, I missed you. Had my biannual on Saturday with a new CFI. Guy was very thorough. Gave me a 50 question multiple choice test. He had me read the questions and tell him the answers. Then went out and did multiple stall configurations (to full stalled condition), steep turns, slow flight, unusual attitudes, and three T&G's (no flaps, partial flaps, and full flaps). Good CFI and I learned some too. Any time you want to meet at KFIN let me know. -
I have text alert on the credit card I use for travel. When I buy something that looks suspicious to the credit card company they send me a text "Did you make a purchase at so and so for $$$$, text back 1 if yes or 2 if no". It works well for me and they give me plenty of time to respond before they pause the account. As soon as I respond with a 1 the card is good again. It works particularly well because I can make purchases in different states and the most I will get is a couple of text msgs and I don't have to worry about calling them and reaching someone

Wow, we are up to 33 folks or so. Very nice. Maybe we should get a keg or two delivered -

Anyone here flying from Florida? I'm interested in what route you are taking and if you have any suggestions for fuel stops along the way. I already picked out a route but my fuel stop is just the closest airport roughly 4 hours from departure.

I'm one of those that do not use carb heat. Right or wrong in five years and close to 500 hours in my C I have experienced carb icing once and it was in cruise. I live in north Florida and it's plenty humid and there are times of the year when the conditions are perfect for carb icing, and yet, my plane does not seem to be very susceptible to carb icing at all. I have an engine monitor so I'll probably add a carb sensor at some point but it's just one of those things that has had little to no effect in my plane. On descent to landing my mixture stays leaned and it goes to rich only after I enter the pattern.

Do you park at Skyharbour by any chance? I see a transient Mooney there often. My hangar is next to them.

Alex, I'm in Jacksonville so pretty close. Doing my biannual Saturday morning but I can take you up Sunday. Next weekend I'll be making her clean and pretty for the trip to Oshkosh. Let me know. -
Already own a stratus and I like how well it works with Foreflight. ESG is at the top of my list for ADS-B out solution.

M20C Foreflight flight plan performance numbers
Hector replied to MCDsiena's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Start/Taxi/takeoff : 1.5 (towered field) Climb at 105 Kts/500fpm/15 GPH (with everything to the wall I burn 17.5 but over a long climb to 7.5-10k it averages to 14-15 GPH or a little less) Cruise: 135 Kts/9.2 GPH (typically between 8.7 and 9.2 at 22 inches and 2400 RPM which is my typical cruise setting. This is conservative since my C actually does 140 Kts consistently). Descent : 150 Kts/500 rpm/7.5 GPH These are the numbers I use in Foreflight -
CRG is my home field. I have only used them a couple times. Once for a transponder issue and again for a KI-209 that was misbehaving. The transponder issue was an emergency since I had to leave on a business trip. They quickly diagnosed the problem and had me fixed up in a couple of hours. The KI-209 was similar in that I was getting ready to go somewhere and the stupid thing decided to quit. They loaned me a KI-209 and sent me on my way while they worked on my unit. They had mine working by the time I came back a week later ( faulty connector). I though their pricing seemed fair but some in my field consider them to be on the high side. They did good by me and I didn't have to cancel both trips because they found a way to help me. That counts for something in my book. A buddy of mine with a 172 just went to see them for an ADS-B out installation. He said they were booked for more than 4 months out. I guess I need to go soon and put my name on the list. If you have something specific in mind that you want them to do give them a call and see if you can get a quote to compare.

That's a great looking C and with everything most people would need/want. If I was in the market I would definitely look at it. I'll mention it to a couple of friends currently on the fence Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I also will be getting in Friday, Im hoping for about a 1700 arrival time. DEF will be looking for you Hector! Likewise. I'll be flying from North Florida so I think 1700 is likely for me as well. Hopefully a little earlier. I am planning on an early departure. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Planning on being there Friday before to hopefully avoid the craziness and get a good spot on the north 40. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I think there is a reasonable expectation that if you are quoted X for a job the bill should not come in at 10X without a conversation taking place to let the customer know that the repair is going to be much more than originally quoted. I think it's only fair. We don't know the full story here but I would certainly have started by sitting down with the shop to try to figure out what happened. Maybe they simply forgot to make that phone call but the tank did need a full strip and reseal in which case the price is in the ball park. I might not be happy that they did the work without my approval but given their reputation I would probably be receptive that the work was needed and this is just a case of miscommunication. Again, have no idea what happened here but I would not trash the shop until I'm certain they took me for a ride. Based on all I have heard about LASAR that seems unlikely.

I have it the best. My hangar neighbor runs a parking lot paint striping business. Whenver he refreshes the stripes in his hangar he does mine too. Mine look new all the time :-)

Many of us have spent a lot of time, effort, and AMU's building redundancy into our birds to improve reliability and safety. We have multiple GPS/COM radios, backup electric AI's, dual vacuum pumps, engine monitors, etc. I have also tried to add some redundancy to my fuel quantity system by making my own fuel stick that is very accurate and using it religiously before every departure, adding a JPI with fuel totalizer, and knowing very well what my fuel burn is at my typical cruise setting. I've also had my senders overhauled but they still provide crappy and inaccurate indication because that's just inherent in their design for my vintage Mooney. So I am interested in better and more accurate fuel indication. Why have I spent AMU's in all these backups to simply dismiss something as fundamental as fuel quantity? Now, to be frank, I feel pretty comfortable that what I do will keep me out of trouble barring any stupidity on my part. However, if there is a chance to greatly improve my shitty fuel quantity indication I will not dismiss it. How many times have I stared at a fuel gauge in a GA aircraft over the last 30 years and thought (again and again), "what a piece of shit". For once it would be nice, before I'm too old to fly, to look at that gauge and actually know how much fuel I have because I believe it and it matches what my JPI is telling me. That's real redundancy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
