  3. STC's now have the aircraft N-number or engine serial number put on them from the STC holder.

  4. Same technique I've been using for a loooooong time, Mike. In fact, I may have taught it to Dmax FlyDave's new technique is interesting but I don't understand what moving the throttle full forward and holding it there accomplishes. All that does is change the position of the air flow control in the throttle body. If the engine is not cranking, there is no airflow therefore nothing happening by holding it full forward. The procedure with starting cranking at full forward moves a large volume of air to lean it to a starting mixture.

  5. Try this hotstart procedure for the IO360 Lycoming. Prop Full Throttle 1000 RPM mark Mixture at idle cutoff. Crank and slowly advance mixture. It will catch usually before you are half way to full rich. Once it does, go to full rich. takes about 4 blades usually on my F, and has worked on many students J's and E's also. Don Maxwell taught me this technique, and ill bet he has hot started more IO360 mooneys than just about any man alive Mike Elliott N9427v @ FA40

  6. Watching people talk "at" each other just to vent their personal belief systems with no chance of reasonable discourse or learning taking place is an annoyance. OTOH I have no trouble recognizing it for the worthless nonsense it is and simply ignoring it. And no problem recognizing an attack on another as a reflection of the personality defects of the attacker that gives me no information on the person attacked.

  7. And now Aisiana Airlines is suing the TV station. Geeze - you would think that that friggin' airline has better things to do like CHANGE THE CULTURE OF THEIR PILOTS AND BUILD QUALITY TRAINING PROGRAMS SO THEY DON'T KILL MORE PEOPLE AND WRECK LIVES! http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2013/07/14/asiana-tv-station-fake-pilot-names/2515541/

  9. I've always sort of liked debauchery as long as it's not just someone else having all the fun . . . which usually seems to be the case,. I say down with everything, and up with me! And it ain't NIMBY . . . it's "BANANA!" . . . build absolutely nothing anywhere near anything. bumper

  10. I love the animation. It should have been obvious they were below the glide path (if they looked at the PAPI). And they were slow. Not a good place to be.

  11. Sorry Erik - the SVS is not suitable for turbo'd aircraft. You'll need to look at the standby electrical system eg http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/inpages/aerosafeguardian.php

  17. TCP is Tricresylphosphate. It s a catalyst that allows the tetraethyl lead in Avgas to be broken down more easily and removed during combustion. You might say it disrupts or "softens" the hard lead deposits. I took one of my dental cameras and shot photos of the inside of my cylinders as they were and will retake them after I have flown some hours with the TCP added to fuel.

  18. Not only that, it is essentially a go around and the nose will jump immediately requiring significant control. Nothing like a DA40.

  19. I use/love my CNX80, and would like to have the 480 as a backup, but considering the lack of support from Garmin, the 6 AMUs is too steep for me. As smart as the unit is, even half that price is a gamble. If the unit goes TU, not sure anything can be done for it. It's the same reason I couldn't justfy the money people are asking for 430W and 530W units they are selling when they do their panel upgrades. I've already been burned by Garmin's lack of support when my MX20 died. No help/available service from Garmin. Obsolete Garmin units are great as long as they work, but the lack or factory support for them devalues them enough to make them a huge gamble.

  20. David I think you have a pretty well equipped plane. But I did not see an engine analyzer. If you are going to spend some money on it do it on something that will give you an added safety benefit. An engine analyzer will help you on saving on fuel and will alert you on an impending engine condition before it gets catastrophic. José
