I'm curious why you recommend those two, I see no specs on those links. so while yes, they 'look' the same, without specs how can you compare? I know other people have probably already done that, but other than mounting brackets, if the specs are the same but one is 1/4 the price...... it would be nice not to have to remount it but that's not worth the extra price to me. BUT, if that's simply the better choice, then that's what I'd go with. the one I listed is listed as the pma replacement for the cutler hammer according to lamar.

Sadly, that 'brochure' looks a whole lot like what industrial auction houses publish before an asset sale. While Mooney has risen from ashes countless times, if the equipment gets auctioned off, it may well be the end. I fervently hope that is not the case.

LANCECASPER started following KX-165 available

Same part number, why wouldn’t that work?
-
read through the thread not sure I was able to see if it is plug and play with the same 165. lot's of convo around 155 but not 165 to replace an existing 165. sorry

Agree. The facility has been marketed on APN for 2 months. That PowerPoint came from it. (click on "View Brochure") The City of Kerrville and Kerr County own the entire facility. The title of the post is "Shop for Lease" but the documents don't make that clear. Since the City/County have been marketing it for 2 months, it sounds like either Mooney has not been paying the Lease and the City/County gave notice of eviction or Mooney let them know that they are giving up. Well, the weather is what you get, rather than what is forecast. I took my wife up to her mother's in NC late last week. The forecast was 1000-1200 broken; ATIS was 600 overcast; I descended into the tops at 6500, turned inbound on the ILS still high because the controller wouldn't let me descend early enough, and broke out just as Tower was asking if I had broken out yet--at 600 msl or 389 agl, light rain, mist, 2 miles visibility. Stuff happens. Weather sometimes happens and sometimes doesn't. There is no accurate, timely weather information available in our cockpits, but spherics can help a lot (i.e., StormScope). Having it makes me feel better about blundering into something, but I've been caught by low ceilings before--forecast of 25K, found 400 Overcast, 2-1/2 miles in mist. Haven't found that magical instrument that resolves cloud height and visibility in front of you, other than listening to weather at airports in front of you, but many smaller AWOS broadcasts only reach about 30-35 miles out in good weather . . . Starlink may bring weather to your cockpit faster and in greater detail, but it's still showing you what was happening 15-20 minutes ago, plus whatever delay is showing on the screen, and that delay is unrelated to your equipment, it is caused by assembling the Big Picture and getting it ready to broadcast. Fly safe out there, ya'll!

Found this listing on line. Don't know timeline if before/after the LASAR announcement. I think it is going to be a tough business. mooney.pdf

we did plenty of multimeter zapping and right now everything is pointing to the relay. the switch seemed to be ok, although I don't think it would be a bad idea to replace it. the oem part has 4 posts as well. this is the 'new' one, which kind of lines up with how the existing one is wired. sort of:

technically the one you have is rebuildable. Maybe. Taking the fuse out kind of means it is still working. You have another wire somewhere that was providing 12 volts to the master. It could have been as simple as water from the com panel falling on the master switch. I would spend some time with a test light/VOM before I replaced the solenoid. I would be replacing the master switch prior to the Master Relay. What the heck is that third relay for? That is not stock.

Texas is a bit unique in that they tax inventory as personal property, which makes Mooney carrying inventory as you describe particularly punitive. I don't know what the rate is in Kerrville, but since airplane parts are relatively high value and Mooney is relatively cash strapped, I'm sure they don't want to carry any more inventory at that location than they have to. I wonder if Lasar can order Mooney parts in enough volume to produce some economies of scale, then carry the inventory on their books back in Oregon (where inventory is not taxed)?

If you read through the whole thread you will see under what conditions that would work.

for the record, are there people who have replaced the oem master with the Lamar sts-m12? from the specs: "Silver Contacts provide 300A in-rush & 150A continuous-duty capability Much higher than OE units which is higher in-rush but fewer continuous. I think other than starting the plane this should be more than enough but just wanted to check.

When I got out of college I was employed by a specialty tool manufacturer. They built a couple thousand very unique tools for the oil field. The shop was really sophisticated with about 100 machining stations 25 being very modern cnc machines, 300 highly skilled machinists working three shifts 24/7. I managed the schedule and traceability and they were making obscene amounts of money. The business was started by three guys in their garage, had no debt, and was known all over the world for its service, and as “the guys that had the stuff on the shelf”. They were purchased by a company who was heavily leveraging the debt right before I was hired. What the founders had figured out , was that some of the complex parts to make took more time to setup the machine than it did to make the part. Some taking 16 hours of writing the code and setting up the machine to run for 5 minutes to make the part. So when they had an order for one or two, they would make 50 or a hundred and put the extras on the shelf. (The cost of the single order paid enough to make all the rest). Pure genius in my mind and the three founders were very wealthy…. Six months later the bean counters came in. Wrote off about 20 million in “dead inventory” claiming that since most of the inventory hadn’t sold within 13 months of production. and the company went out of business shortly after. The write off was not the only factor, or even thr main, but it sure didn’t help things. Also, some companies have to pay tax on the inventory if there is value added, as in machining. This would absolutely be the smartest thing for inventory that Mooney could do, but not sure they will be permitted even if they chose to. I saw their plant several times, and the amount of material and time that goes into making one at a time really ruins any economy. Given how rigorous the traceability is, they have to know what amounts of things are made yearly, and with a modest front end investment in building inventory would really make this work for the vendor and consumer. Let’s hope they can make it work.

is it just plug and play? I have the same but the filaments have started to go. wondering if I can just take one out and put one in

That is one crazy site. It covers everything from dissing the competition, to calling out the president.

I thought of this thread yesterday when I was enroute from KRAP (Rapid City) to KCOU (Columbia, MO). The forecast went bust as it was 1800z and T-storms were popping that were not supposed to pop until 2100Z. I wanted to file an IFR out of KCOU for my QT there. I had called Columbia Jet Center before leaving KRAP to arrange a QT but that went by the boards after the refueling truck ran out of fuel in the middle of fueling. So it was all for naught. I looked at some charts including index and skew-t and decided to play whack a mole going east towards ATL with the T-storms by going low (5000) staying in VMC and dodging the rain shafts with the aid of XM. XM was good....but not great. FIS-B was less than that. Real time NEXRAD would have been nice. If the fuel truck had not run out of fuel and I was able to file an IFR in the air with a full brief, even better.

Bingo in the second half I’ve flown all sorts of stuff, some with it some without it, it’s just about being a master of the plane when it comes to these light low power straight winged singles, I mean we could also install auto brakes and antiskid system, but why? One of my planes the last owner installed aileron trim, he did this because he didn’t know how to balance fuel and would get a heavy wing. For me to fix this I’d need to pull wires, remove switches and servos and reskin a aileron to make it right, I’ll get around to it, but for me it’s just extra drag, weight and complexity all for what looks to me to be the equivalent look of having training wheels, just because this dude couldn’t manage the aircraft like you said, use your feet, use trim and it’s no factor -

The international use upcharge has been my problem as well. Really don't need it in the US since I have Sirius XM and Ads-B on my panel displays. But what I am really interested in is international travel; particularly Mexico and Latin America where we have no weather service. Europe is in the same boat. Starlink keeps updating their plans. Today they're showing $70/month for the Roam 50GB plan (and $189 for Unlimited data ). But despite the plan going up to $70 from $50/month it might be more reasonable for international trips now since the latest terms say: Roam plans include: ..... International travel is allowed in available markets for up to 2 months per trip. If you plan to stay longer, you may be asked to transfer your account to a new country. Learn more here. So if I am interpreting this correctly to mean I can use the 50GB Roam plan for up to to 2 months at at time out of the US this is good news concerning international use. Bahama's might be another challenge though while traveling as these plans only work within 12 miles of shore, as they say a maritime plan is needed to work outside of over land and more than 12 miles off shore.

We’ve logged over 30 hours this month, thanks to our trip out to Washington, and right now I’m sitting at 30 GB used. Only one more trip planned for this billing cycle, so I’ll be abandoning some GB once again.
