  1. Past hour
  2. Not a thing, IMHO as an EE. The reality here is that these antennae we are discussing are NOT high-Q; i.e., they are 'broadband' enough and easily handle the bandwidth required by the modulation schemes used for both the transponder and ADS-B. As @skykrawler said, 'no reason to replace an antenna if it's working properly' I doubt most antennas 'fail'. Rather, the coax, connectors, and connection to the ground plane deteriorate over time.
  3. LSA airplanes do not go through the same certification process as those in the normal category. It will allow a lot of new airplanes to be sold as LSA that were currently sold as "experimental" yet came in fully assembled. I anticipate the the rules will eventually be changed to 61 for pilots as well; it doesn't make sense someone to go get their LSA certificate, call up an airplane dealer and buy an LSA, only to find out you need a PPL to fly it.
  4. I’ve noticed that too. Is it aerodynamic in nature or related to the change in C of G?
  5. Today
  6. I guess I’m a bit confused why people are referring to the carrier frequency when discussing the bandwidth. The modulation around the carrier defines the bandwidth so I could easily define a system that used the same carrier frequency (1090MHz, 978MHz, etc.) but used very different bandwidths based on the amount of information I need to transmit, the modulation scheme, the encoding scheme, etc. I’m not saying that old antennas aren’t good for new transponder plus ADS-B systems but discussing the center frequency instead of the bandwidth confused me. What am I missing?
  7. Looks like mine is not. What's the point of having a rule that says the plane can be 61 dirty stall but the pilot can only fly a plane that is 59 clean?
  8. Some money are. My J is eligible while some of the earlier and later models are not. You'll have to check individual POH to see whether a particular airplane Vs0 is 59 KCAS or less. This thread, and another referred in the 2nd post here have a lot of good info.
  9. I'm also going to go to a paint store so that I can look at different colors. I'll have some samples mixed in a can to make it easy on myself to spray some sample. I'm very big on trying the paint and I've learned to spray a larger area to see if I like the color. Phantom looks to have a beige based on the can top, I'm looking for super light grey. Good to know that sailcloth will be very bright white. The leather for the seat is the same you'd find in Lexus, a light gray. I'd like to have the cabin as light as possible, the vertical carpets will be a grey close to the seats with matching floors (although I considered black for the floors).
  10. Are Mooney's allowed under the new light sport rules? https://www.aopa.org/news-and-media/all-news/2025/july/22/light-sport-rules-expand-dramatically
  11. I have 500 hours on my 3 2019 servos, no issues yet FWIW.(knock on wood)
  12. Yesterday
  13. My 28v M20J has a 10A cb, no fuse, and no dropping resistor to the original cigar lighter. If it is not in the schematic I would remove it. The cb protects the wire.
  14. You might order a couple of cans and paint a couple of pieces of cardboard (foamcore works great) to see what you like. It’s hard to tell from the little color swatches and if you are only looking at it online it is impossible because of the variations in screen color rendering. Sailcloth is very bright white. I used Phantom white which is close to the original off white color.
  15. If it does, it's installed incorrectly. One advantage of DIY is that you can position the valve precisely as it should be, which is NOT pressing against the hub.
  16. That makes so much more sense!
  17. I tool it to mean, "roll your sleeves up and work on your Mooney."
  18. I had the pitch servo fail two weeks after installing the GTC-500. That was three years ago. I had another pitch servo fail last week and they did a warranty replacement on the second one too. Lee
  19. Is this a troll? Just "roll your damn sleeves up" to get into the top 0.2% of income earners in the US?
  20. The transponder and ADS-B frequencies are fixed, so the required 'bandwith' is not that wide. If you were talking about VHF comm or NAV then talking about bandwidth makes more sense and typically those antenna perform best around the middle of the frequency range so you get decent performance at each end of the range. My airplane is still using what I think is the original King transponder antenna. The UAT has the 1/4 wave stick antenna, but I've been considering replacing that with a transponder blade antenna. There is no reason to replace an antenna if its working properly.
  21. Jerry, are you still looking? I wish I had seen this sooner. I have a used prop available.
  22. My edm-930 was very accurate with the stock fuel probes. If they are working well, then yes, the new gage will reflect their accuracy much better than the old ones.
  23. I thought I'd be able to find a very light gray but the local vendor did not have any. Their color choices were fairly limited but there are more colors online. At this point I'm thinking sailcloth white. https://semproducts.com/public/content/techsheets/VCS-CC Color Coat Aerosols Color Card_0418_Web.pdf The seats will be dropped off on Tuesday to be redone. The project is moving along despite me travelling and spending a week on the couch recovering from a simple day surgery.
  24. Jeremy - thanks from all your Mooney brothers and sisters!
  25. I have a section of the hinge from when my replacement took place that I would part with. $20 and shipping and it’s yours.
  26. On the M20J, there is a transitory pitch up moment during gear extension that disappears when the gear is fully down.
  27. I was told by Mooney the correct parts for an M20C baggage door hinge are 350090-007 fuselage side ($92.55), 350090-011 door side ($114.00), and 350090-009 pin ($40.15). The parts catalog shows 350090-005 as the "hinge assy". Nobody has been able to explain this part but it sounds as if it might be the entire assembly (both sides plus pin). At any rate, these parts are pretty pricey. Can we use MS20257C4-3 from Aircraft Spruce, as has been suggested in this thread, instead? Is it the same spec? What paperwork is required to do so legally? I also need a new hinge for my battery access. I believe the part # is 650011-11. Can anyone confirm? Is there an Aircraft Spruce equivalent? Thanks.
  28. Well there is definitely a pitch up moment when you extend the landing gear. You've experienced that, haven't you? So there must be the opposite moment when you retract, no? I usually have the one nervous passenger and she has experienced go arounds with me and she doesn't think they look like a big deal, I just confirmed with her. And actually given how much I stress the importance of correctly executing go arounds and the dangers of not doing so she thought it looked rather benign.
