Howdy all,

My wife and I want to fly into Charleston, SC this week for a mini vacation and a wedding this weekend.  I was looking at KLRO Mount Pleasant, SC, KJZI - Charleston Exec or KCHS Charleston International.  Any advice would be appreciated!

PS. we need a sticky thread that we can all post good/bad/ugly about airports and FBO's...

Recently used KJZI. No complaints. Self serve is around the corner from the FBO, but they count it toward credit to wave tie down. A few gallons gets you a free night, gas cheaper than full serve. Not cool if you are trying to impress, but my wife knows im cheap so I'm off the hook. Call them ahead of time to arrange. Airnav typically has pretty good info in the comments section.

By the way, if you go to KJZI, there is a Mooney parked near the FBO that has become one with nature. I forgot to get a photo...sad sight.

KLRO is good if you are staying on the east side of the river in the Isle of Palms area. I was there several years ago. At that time the FBO was a dingy trailer that smelled of sewage but as I recall fuel rates were favorable. I think they've spruced things up a bit and fuel prices have risen commensurate, but I haven't been back.

KJZI is okay but they are in love with their fuel, as it too is priced quite high.

Haven't been to Charleston Exec in 3 years, but fuel was high and one of the runways was somewhat rough.  No other experience in the immediate Charleston area.  I did some Mooney transition there and found Beaufort to be a nice place, if it's in range for your trip you may want to consider it.

Tried Charleston Exec (KJZI) and had a great experience.  Wonderful people, very accommodating, even rented a car easily thru them.  They do have expensive fuel and $40/night tie down rates.  They waived the 1st night since I bought fuel and the last night because the weather kept me there an extra day.  I would recommend them but be prepared to pay for the quality services you'll receive.
