N1026F Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 Attention Mooney shoppers: I was ran across an old copy of AOPA's Air Safety Foundation's "Safety Review" of Mooney M20 Series, Models M20 through M20M. It's copyright 1995. It answers a bunch of questions commonly asked on MS regarding comparisons with other aircraft of similar type, detailed safety stats, training, accident reports, ad nauseum. You can probably pick one up for a lot less than renting a bunch of flight hours in various a/c. Quote
carusoam Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 Good news: Mooneys don't just fall out of the sky! Bad news: errant pilots still run out of gas, errant VFR pilots still fly into clouds. Try harder to not be an errant pilot... Best regards, -a- Quote
mooneygirl Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 I think I have two copies to loan if anyone is interested! Great read Quote
carusoam Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 The ability to measure your own O2 at altitude puts us far ahead in the game from where we were a couple of years ago... Best regards, -a- Quote
Jeff_S Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 And methane inhalers is another thing that I will be keeping onboard henceforth. Have any of you ever flown when getting over a cold and your ears wouldn't clear upon descent? Or, in my case, your passengers' ears? Methane inhalers apparently equalize the pressure instantly. Good to know. Huh? Methane inhalers? I've never heard of such a thing, and a quick Google search didn't reveal anything of the sort. Are you sure you didn't mean "menthol" inhalers, like those old Vick's Vaporub in a Tube things? Quote
Jeff_S Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 Or perhaps you're talking about the methane that gets produced naturally when you fly after eating Mexican food! Quote
John Pleisse Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 I have this M20 AOPA Book as well. The pages have faded to yellow. However, it would be very interesting to have a modern day analysis to include Diamond and Cirrus in everything, from accident stats to valuations. The late 90's were a remarkable time. Early 80's planes weren't 20 years old yet and we all thought our Mooneys would sell for more than we paid. Hmmmm. Quote
M20F-1968 Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 If someone can scan a pdf file of this I would like to see it. johnabreda@yahoo.com Thanks, John Breda Quote

urbanti Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 Another request for a .pdf if one comes about, urbanti@gmail.com thx in advance Tim Quote
Jeff_S Posted July 3, 2013 Report Posted July 3, 2013 I'm sure that you are right, Jeff, although I haven't looked it up. Thanks for the correction! Even as such, I had never heard of them. And I have been flying for 25 years. Seems like a good thing to have on board. Do you happen to know if this is an over the counter product, or if it is by prescription? I am currently traveling. Thanks again for the catch and correction! Jim Menthol inhalers are definitely just an over-the-counter item that you should be able to find in any drug store. My Google search revealed that Vick's still seems to be the primary purveyor, although I'm sure there are other brands. Just go to the colds and flu section and you should find them. Good luck! Quote
Marauder Posted July 3, 2013 Report Posted July 3, 2013 Great for helping with snoring too... Only if you are not snoring because you are too fat! Quote
Hank Posted July 3, 2013 Report Posted July 3, 2013 Howdy, Doody! I've also never seen or heard of this, but do like the Mentholyptus cough drops when needed. I still cough, but at least I can breathe again. I generally try to not fly when having ear trouble, ever since my primary CFI started screaming and holding her ear on descent during my dual XC. Yep, it's Howdy Doody time! The inhalers are like putting Vick's Vaporub right up the nostril. I agree on the ear trouble flying. Very difficult to clear out the Eustachian tube. If you have some nasal congestion, I find using a nasal rinse, like a Neti Pot helps clears things up a bit before a flight. Quote
rainman Posted July 3, 2013 Report Posted July 3, 2013 When I was in the altitude chamber some years back, the physiology tech had a bottle of Afrin Spray for those who couldn't clear their ears. I keep one in my flight bag and it was a real help to a passenger last year. Quote
fantom Posted July 3, 2013 Report Posted July 3, 2013 Yep, it's Howdy Doody time! Great....I'm friends with Howdy Doody Bring back your B A-26 At least you're not Clarabell Quote
fantom Posted July 4, 2013 Report Posted July 4, 2013 Yep, it's Howdy Doody time! I'm missing Howdy already! Quote
