jimluper Posted April 22, 2013 Report Posted April 22, 2013 I have a 1975 M20E and need to replace the front antenna. I have attached two photos, first a side view showing both the forward and rear VHF antennas. Also a close up of the front antenna. The front antenna is held on by 4 bolts just forward of the roof cabin air induct. The bolts are accessed from inside of the plane. My question, does anyone happen to know the make and part number of this antenna. Thanks
KSMooniac Posted April 22, 2013 Report Posted April 22, 2013 Hi Jim, We met in NOLA last weekend! Do you want the exact same antenna, or a modern one with less drag?
OR75 Posted April 22, 2013 Report Posted April 22, 2013 the antenna ( 7 ) you have is CI-156. They are still sold (~$400)... check out Chiefaircraft or others. Curious as to why you need to replace it. these don't wear out. no moving parts. Cosmetic reason ?
PilotDerek Posted April 22, 2013 Report Posted April 22, 2013 Here is a link tomthe thread I started about replacing the 7 antenna. http://mooneyspace.com/topic/4987-antenna-replacement/?hl=antenna It's replacement is the CI-196 blade type.
jimluper Posted April 22, 2013 Author Report Posted April 22, 2013 First a hi to Scott that I meet in NOLA. Mooney people are great to meet everywhere. Second, beleive it or not the plastic cover on one side of the antenna came off in flight. I am very much open to replacing it with either the same or a newer verision of the antenna. Thanks for everyone getting back to me so quick.......
OR75 Posted April 23, 2013 Report Posted April 23, 2013 the CI-156 and CI-196 both have the same footprint pick the look you like, I don't think the drag will be different between the 2. what type of antenna do you have on the back ? nice to have the same.
kerry Posted April 23, 2013 Report Posted April 23, 2013 I like your N#. What's the story behind that. 1
Marauder Posted April 23, 2013 Report Posted April 23, 2013 I like your N#. What's the story behind that. That, my friend, is the finest example of Mooney thriftiness you will ever see. A Mooney owner too cheap to pay to have all his numbers painted! It is a cool number though. Bet he has fun with ATC.
