I got seriously interested in Mooneys two years ago, not quite in time to get to the Colorado Springs MAPA convention. I've been to both of the recent ones in Texas.

I wasn't quite ready to buy an airplane, but a Floyd Washburn in SC listed 4875D in the MAPA log in, I think August, and I was intrigued. He listed on barnstormers in early October at a lower price. He lowered the price again on October 31, and I pounced. He flew it to Rome, Georgia to have a pre-buy and annual by Joey Cole. The annual and some fixes are still going on, so I won't physically have the plane for a few weeks, but the money has transferred and the plane is mine.

If you're curious, the top couple of posts in my blog have some photos of the plane and a little information on my buying it: http://craigsteffen.net/blog/

I will post lots later when my work schedule settles down and I have the plane locally so that I can fly it, poke at it, and take pictures.

So in all likelyhood, I'll be flying it to Oshkosh this summer, and to the MAPA convention this fall (assuming it isn't in Seattle or something).

Congratulations, Craig. I'd love to see your plane next year at Oshkosh and the MAPA convention. The first thing you should put on that Mooney is dead bugs. :)

Great news you will enjoy that plane. See you in Oshkosh next year to! I'm going to try to get a better parking spot by the rest of the mooneys next year instead of by the highway off the end of 9 :). Congratulations!!!!

great looking plane and great avionics. Does it have AP? I couldn't see it in the panel pics. Nonetheless, looks like a beautiful F. Joey did my bladder install. I really liked him, and he took time to show me around the other planes in his hangar.

Congrats Craig. I purchased my M20C late October, probably no more than a couple of weeks before you. Looks like we are both having a great Christmas. Fly her often!!! Be safe.

Congratulations! Even on days when you don't fly, just head to the airport and sit/stand next to your plane. It's a great feeling.

Here's to many happy flights.

Seth:

Sounds like you need to go and pet your Mooney from time to time. I have been told that such activities will reduce stress.

No active autopilot. PC system of unknown health, although there are logs of it being worked on when the plane was in CA being maintained by LASAR no too many years ago.

Yeah, I've already learned a tremendous amount from him.

Congrats! What a beautiful machine. The paint looks like its in great shape- recently repainted?

Many happy fight hours to you!

It had a gear-up landing in California somewhere in the 2004-06 range (I don't have the logs in front of me) and was re-painted then. The paint has seen hard use since and has some wear. It's still a great 25-foot paint job; closer than that and you start to see the flaws.

Congratulations, Craig. Nice panel. I took a quick scan down through your blog, and it looks like there is some overlap in our interests. I'm also in the market for a J, and will use it to make the dreary task of commuting to work a bit more interesting, not to mention faster.

Best of luck in getting the F ready to go!

And I don't know how this post got tagged "m20j"; I must have slipped on the keyboard. 4875D is a 1967 M-20F with manual gear.

I've got manual gear, too. It took me a time or two to get used to it, but now I can do it in my sleep.

Craig, I was also looking at buying this plane, but you beat me to it. I'd love to know all the little items the prebuy turned up, because it sounded really clean.

Congrats Craig !

We met at the MAPA convention in Kerrville in 2010. I too am planning on going to OSHKOSH but I'll fly to FLD with some other Mooneys. '

Good luck with it.. I just love my E, got 18 hrs this month.
