231DF Posted August 10 Report Posted August 10 I know this has been posted multiple times but having read through pretty much every topic on the forums I still have a few questions. I'm trying to figure out appropriate power settings for cruise LOP operations. I have the TSIO-360-LB7, Merlyn Wastegate, TurboPlus Intercooler and GAMI's with a 0.2 spread. For the purpose of this discussion, I am going to use Calculated MP, rather than indicated due to the intercooler. Current cruise setting 32"MP, 2300RPM and 9.5GPH. I believe this equates to approximately 131HP or 59% per one of Jlunseth's comments. Could y'all share with me your LOP power settings for cruise (MP/RPM/FF) and indicate if you have the TurboPlus Intercooler and if the MP is Indicated or Calculated. Finally, Thank You All for making Mooney ownership such and enjoyable experience!
hubcap Posted August 10 Report Posted August 10 Myrtle has the TurboPlus Intercooler and the Merlyn upper deck pressure controller. My typical numbers are 27” of MP on the gauge (which works out to 29.x” after conversion), 2400 RPM, and 10.2 GPH fuel flow. The TIT will be ~1,550 F. Those numbers give me: 150 KTAS at 12,000’ 160 KTAS at 15,000’ 170 KTAS AT 18,000’ 2
Aerodon Posted August 10 Report Posted August 10 You might want to look for a 252 POH, my guess is the performance numbers will be closer to your configuration with the intercooler. 1
Pinecone Posted August 11 Report Posted August 11 The neat thing with a turbo is that you can run most any fuel flow LOP. Our TSIO-360s are 13.7 HP per 1 GPH. So 9.5 GPH = 130.15 HP or 62% power for your 210 HP engine. So all you need to do it pick an RPM, set 9.5 GPH and then adjust manifold pressure to be LOP the desired amount. So I run my -SB at 10.1 GPH, which is 138.37 HP or 63% power (220 HP max). It does not matter what MP I run as long as it is LOP. If I need to run more LOP, I can either dial back the mixture, which reduces power. Or I can increase MP (more air) and keep the same 63% power. I run 2300 RPM at cruise. LOP is a slower burn rate, so lower RPM means longer dwell time to extract more energy from the fuel being burned. NA can't do this. Once they are at WOT the only way to run more LOP is less fuel which means less power. 2

I have the TSIO-360-GB and contemplating the wastegate and intercooler mod due to high cht temps. I have to run the cowl flaps half open in cruise at all times to keep the temps below 400 degrees at the same power settings as you.

I've found higher RPM settings will bring hottest CHT down to 330 .

Even during the summer they stay below 350 if I put the cowl flaps in trail.
