I'm not sure why Mooney ever went away from the squat switch.  It is far simpler and less expensive.  Those airspeed switches routinely get damaged during the 24 month IFR checks and are difficult to access for service.  I'm glad I have a simple squat switch on my J.

I am having trouble with my 1977 J model. When it is cold the gear does not want to fully retract. The motor is trying to finish it as the electric meter shows a strain on the battery. I can put it back down and it goes up all the way on the second try. It is electric gear. It gets greased regularly. We swing it on annual inspection and it always goes through the cycle flawlessly. But the hangar is warm.

I had a very similar issue earlier this year. The gear wouldn’t come all the way up and the gear unsafe light would stay illuminated. The circuit breaker wouldn’t pop either. Turns out the emergency extension spine drive cable got jammed and was causing the issue. It wouldn’t happen every time just every few cycles. You can rule out if it’s the cable, by just trying the emergency extension on jacks. Mine wouldn’t come all the way down with the emergency extension. I just got back from Byron’s shop in Maryland, after having his guys put my new Eaton motor and newer style extension in. IMG_0545.jpeg.240c5ac053bea217bbb30a7f88306409.jpegIMG_0539.jpeg.6b3a565164d6e2f75eedf1e39be48484.jpeg
