Martin S. Posted October 24, 2024 Report Posted October 24, 2024 Evening gents, trying to get some of the screws that hold the glareshield in place. The IPC lists them as F1979. Lasar seems to be the only source. Are these standard tapping screws, and if yes, does anybody know if Aircraftspruce has them (Couldn’t guess any type and size just from the label F1979)? EricJ Posted October 24, 2024 Report Posted October 24, 2024 On my airplane they're just truss-head sheet metal/wood screws that hold the middle plate into a piece of laminated phenolic attached to the frame. They're nothing special at all. I'd get them from a hardware store or something. This is assuming we're talking about the same thing. On my airplane there's just two screws right at the center post. PT20J Posted October 25, 2024 Report Posted October 25, 2024 I think Mooney had several iterations. My 1978 J had a glare shield with no center hump and a metal plate around the center post. The metal plate was held down with three flat head machine screws. I don’t recall what they screwed in to, but there must have been nutplates. There may have also been a couple of sheet metal screws. My 1994 J glare shield with the center hump has two trim screws which are #6 sheet metal screws. Quote

M20F-1968 Posted October 30, 2024 Report Posted October 30, 2024 It doesn't matter as long as the thread type is proper, ande the screw (or likely machine screw) in long enough to easily reach the threds. What I dis, and the reason for my posting, his realize that the slot of the screw had is a PITA to access and engage with the 201 windshield and the height of my panel (which is an inch and a half higher than standard), I used a machine screw with a head that can be turned with either a socket wrench or ratcheting box wrench. This makes it a whole lot easier to take screws in and out and tighten them.. John Breda Quote
