Alan Maurer
Mooney People, What do you think about landing at X01 with good 2400 foot runway on hot day in Ovation. POH. lines are a little tricky to follow on graph. Usually use 75 knots approach speed. but can slow to 70 and put out speed brakes and retract flaps on runway.... it has been very hot here in South Florida. Any thoughts? A64Pilot
Never been there myself, but going off of the pic on Airnav, there are no obstructions on either end so you could drag it in and cut power right on the approach end and touch down there. I’d practice at my home field first to get a good feeling of it, but to be honest it wouldn’t bother me, just go into it with the attitude that your going around, maybe even make the first touchdown a touch and go to get the feel of it, just don’t get determined that you have to make it, and do not try to salvage a bad approach, go around if it’s not exactly right. I assume you have practiced spot landing and feel comfortable being able to hit the point of intended touchdown? Guy in my neighborhood regularly lands his Bravo in 2500’ of grass over obstacles, I assume the B and Ovation have similar capabilities? But then he has a bunch of Ag time too, so I think the airplane is capable, but are you comfortable is the question. Nothing wrong with deciding the risk isn’t worth the reward
Niko182
Depends on your minimums. I know @MooneyMitch used to operate his ovation out of a 2300ft strip. I have taken my slovation into a 1400ft strip. Multiple people in Europe operate their ovations and acclaims out of sub 2000ft strips. The plane will easily handle getting into and out of a 2400ft strip at gross weight. It depends what you're comfortable with. It helps with 310hp too, but will still easily handle it with 280hp.
Niko182
I should add it also helps, to raise the flaps as the mains touch down. If you get comfy with the site picture, you can even raise them a half foot over the ground. It'll just plant the plane down, and you can apply significantly more breaking action at the higher speeds without worrying about wearing down the tires. Paul Thomas
I went there my first or second flight when I bought my J as part of my checkout and I barely used the brakes. I was surprised at how short our airplane do land when we are on speed. IIRC, landing distance between our airplanes should be similar but with the extra power, your takeoff run should be even shorter than mine. Running the numbers is smarts given the length of the runway, and I'd verify that I can do it with some margin before going there, but you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Schllc
I have landed there many times in my acclaim and my ovation. you need to be on your best game. the two thresholds are water at the ends. There is also wind shear because of a large row of hedges that blocks it at about 10' high. Its very doable, just take a few approach passes if you arent comfortable. no services or crew car though.
