Where does the 5.8 LB/GAL figure come from?

That is out of my POH under the sample loading problem for weight and balance. ie 5.82 lbs/gal. I have seen it else where including the Power Plant limitations **100 LL fuel is calculated at 5.82 lb/gl 100 Octane is calculated at 6 lb/gal. As Mooney Marketing became more aggresive with their range and payloads I think that is when the 5.82 gal/hr was used. Others can check their POH but I would think this started in the 90's It is in the Acclaim, Ovation and Eagle POH's. It is also on the MAC website.

Fuel density is stated in my POH for the Ovation, hidden in one section, and only stated once....  I believe MAC uses 5.8.  Most of my flight training used 6.0.

Unfortunately, my POH is in the plane, I am going to have to re-read / re-familiarize it soon....

I like Jerry's numbers indicating the effect of temperature on density. Plan to buy your fuel on a cold day...

Well, after my short, first try at LOP, it seems that my F will also be capable of doing 1000nm. I lost about 8kt in cruise but even if we make it 10kt, I can fly for 8 hours at a TAS of 130kt, burning 7 gal/hr and still have 8 gal of fuel in reserve. This equates to total distance of 1040nm in no wind.

Follow-up on fuel density...

The Ovation POH indicates in section II Limitations, Power Plant...

  100LL density is 5.82 Lbs/gal

  100 density is 6.0 Lbs/gal

Cris, as you mentioned above this is at the bottom of page 2-5 in my M20R POH.
