I’m installing an EDM-930 in my Mooney. Where do I install the rpm sensor on a D3000 dual mag?

Mine is in the port at center of the top.    The magnet is directly below it.    I don't have a pic of the installation, but this is basically the spot:

That was my thought too. But it didn’t pickup a signal.  The sensor is acknowledging a connection to the display, but no data.  The sensor I received from JPI is the ring type.

the photo shows my connection.  Lee

It looks like you need this one from JPI:    Bendix Dual PN-420808  $395          Hopefully that's the one they sent you.

(Also mentioned in paragraph 26 of the installation manual: https://www.jpinstruments.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/Install908-Primary_REV-M-7-10-2021JFP.pdf

Aircraft Spruce also has them: https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/pnpages/10-05461.php

JPI is saying the “ring type” is correct for the dual magneto.  They said it may be a configuration problem when they set up the 930.  They gave me a couple of tests to try.  Lee

Mine looks like what you're showing.

Mystery solved.  JPI had incorrectly pinned the RPM sensor to the EDM-930 connector.  I traced the wires back to the connector and JPI agreed they had mis-wired.  Works fine now.  Thanks for everyone’s input.

And interesting side story.  I needed to cut a new panel for the edm930 and mentioned it to my 16 year old grandson, Levi.  He said his school recently received a donation of a CNC machine but no one knew how to use it.  Levi is not in a shop class but asked the shop teacher if he could learn to use the cnc machine.  After a little trial and error, he cut the panel for me and it worked perfectly.  In exchange for letting Levi use the cnc machine, I told the teacher I would donate an Alibre CAD program to the school.  I called Alibre to see if they had a school discount and they provided the school with a perpetual 10 seat license at no cost to me or the school.  My cost for the new  panel was only the aluminum stock ($75).

Glad to hear you got the 930 sorted, and glad to hear about how the panel worked out!    It looks good!

I'll suggest that somewhere along the way somebody will complain about your gear switch.    There's a requirement for them to be shaped like a wheel.  Is it just missing the cover?

I took the picture before the “wheel” and bypass button were reinstalled. They are present now. :)  Lee

For a JPI 830 we had to program it as an eight cylinder because the RPM shown was twice what it was

Yes, the dual mag, the instructions say to double the number of cylinders.  Lee

Lee, of course we all know what you mean, but every time I pass this thread, I chuckle. See, from Eric’s picture, the mag looks more cyan than magenta :D

I’m partially color blind, so maybe it is magenta.  iPad tries to be too helpful when correcting spelling.  :)
