Dave Marten Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 Mooney Drivers, If at first you don't succeed then try again! Weather prevented any Mooneys from flying into Mojave on March 17th, so I'm hosting a VMG fly-in and any other Mooniacs in April! April's Plane Crazy at Mojave will feature the amazing work of Scaled Composites! Hangars will be open and projects on display. Event start 10am, Guest speaker 11am-Scaled engineers and test pilots, followed by lunch at noon (in work). I'm re-building all the details so stand by. Fly-in/lunch signups will be through www.vintagemooneygroup.com at http://www.vintagemooneygroup.com/VMGWest/index.htm (give me a day or two to get it posted) The main event: www.scaled.com Mojave Air and Space Port (KMHV): www.mojaveairport.com More details to follow in the coming days! Questions? Dave Marten dandtmarten@hotmail.com or tag onto this thread! See ya in Mojave!
igorbly Posted March 21, 2012 Report Posted March 21, 2012 I don't yet own a Mooney, but I'd like to! I'll be there; hope to see a lot of Mooneys so I can decide on a model.
mooneyflyer Posted March 21, 2012 Report Posted March 21, 2012 Please register here: http://www.vintagemooneygroup.com/registerspecial.htm so we can have a good headcount for parking and lunch. Thanks, Phil
Dave Marten Posted March 23, 2012 Author Report Posted March 23, 2012 All, Here's the scoup. http://www.vintagemooneygroup.com/VMGWest/index.htm --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Vintage Mooney Group Fly-in to Mojave Spaceport Plane Crazy Saturday April 21st!Please join us for an even bigger and better fly-in at Mojave Air and Space Port (KMHV) Saturday April 21st featuring the Scaled Composites Open House and your own Mooney Aircraft! Since the weather prevented our participation in March we've still got our front-row parking already reserved for April. We'll attempt to share the spotlight with Scaled. We'll again be the guests of the Mojave Transportation Museum and Mojave Airport. Plane Crazy Saturday is Mojave's monthly open house highlighting both the innovative aerospace achievements and historical feats of the high desert of California. Hangar doors are open and the public will be invited to attend. Aviation firsts are happening daily out here in the high desert! 10am: Event start - hangar doors open, tours begin11am: Guest Speaker - Scaled Composites: Spaceship II updates and other exciting projects presented by Scaled Test Pilots and Engineers12noon: Group lunch - BBQ mixer with VMG, Mojave pilots, rocket scientists (literally), etc. (I'm working the details bring $5-10 bucks a head) In addition to the fly-in, open house, and aircraft on display there will also be a high school robotics competition! I don't think we can cram any more innovation and developing technology into a single event. The Voyager Cafe is on the field (although we'll do a seperate lunch since the cafe will be swamped) and self-serve fuel is available. Please signup and check back often for event updates.Main Event: Scaled Composites www.scaled.com For more info on Plane Crazy Saturday see www.mojavemuseum.org More info on the Mojave Air and Space Port www.mojaveairport.comEvent contact: Dave Marten dandtmarten@hotmail.com 605-390-8044 Please bring a pair of chocks as we may exceed tiedown capacity!
Dave Marten Posted April 17, 2012 Author Report Posted April 17, 2012 Just to keep you all in the loop: We've got 20 Mooneys signed up for Mojave. WX looks great. We're having a group lunch at noon, but if you want food then signup at the VMG website. Need a good count by Thursday night. The MHV tower will be OPEN. Expect to land on 8/26. Tower will direct you to parking. Runway 12/30 is planned to be closed. Blue Skies!
Dave Marten Posted April 22, 2012 Author Report Posted April 22, 2012 Thanks to all who particpated at Mojave! 32 Mooneys flew for a total of 90 Mooney folks for lunch! Great fly-in with nearly 200 airplanes participating. Scaled put on a great show. For those of you that participated I hope you had a great time! Happy to have hosted. We'll do it again!

FlyDave Posted April 22, 2012 Report Posted April 22, 2012 Dave, Thanks for putting this together! We had a great time, the food was great and we really enjoyed meeting you and everyone else (But I did go home and jump in the pool ).
Immelman Posted April 22, 2012 Report Posted April 22, 2012 Dave, What a great event. I really appreciate you setting up the logistics. Feeding 90 people is never easy and the lunch was great! Myself & my passenger (who I hope to infect with the bug to get his pilot certificate) really enjoyed it.
knute Posted April 22, 2012 Report Posted April 22, 2012 Dave- great fly-in! Thanks for organizing the info, lining up the caterer, etc- well done. That was a kick to see the Virgin Galactic mother ship up close. (the giant Antonov AN-2 biplane was also a first for me) I'm sure glad the tower was operating; that was a whole lot of planes. Enjoyed it!
DaV8or Posted April 23, 2012 Report Posted April 23, 2012 Thanks for the work on this great event Dave! Sorry I missed you all for lunch. Anyhow, here's phone photos I took, including some of my favorite piston twin, the Boomerang. Arguably the best light piston twin ever built.
igorbly Posted April 26, 2012 Report Posted April 26, 2012 Good idea for an angle on the 747 Dave! Here is my take, along with a few others.
