Speed Merchant Posted August 15, 2023 Report Posted August 15, 2023 I am considering having an AirPower altenator and voltage regulator installed in my 84 201. Air Power doesn't have a PMA for the J model but does have a PMA for the E and F model. I field approval would be required. Has someone installed one on a J model. Should I consider a different altenator? Thanks Quote
EricJ Posted August 15, 2023 Report Posted August 15, 2023 J models already have alternators with decent regulation systems. Is there a reason to not use the approved parts? Quote
Ragsf15e Posted August 15, 2023 Report Posted August 15, 2023 Also, just be careful if this is related to your previous electrical issue you posted about. Throwing in a new alternator and vr might solve it but it’s not guaranteed without some reasonable troubleshooting. I’ve proved it (and have the new alternator and vr to show for it)! Quote
201Mooniac Posted August 15, 2023 Report Posted August 15, 2023 Curt, I think you mean PlanePower? If so, I'm pretty sure there is an approved unit as I have one installed (by Top Gun) when my alternator was dying and I didn't think they did a field approval. I have a Zeftronics VR15300 regulator that was also installed at another time. They have both worked flawlessly for many years now. Adam Quote
201Mooniac Posted August 15, 2023 Report Posted August 15, 2023 Just checked and mine is the PlanePower AL12-P70. I believe there is also a 24V version but I don't know the part number. Quote
