I am considering having an AirPower altenator and voltage regulator installed in my 84 201. Air Power doesn't have a PMA for the J model but does have a PMA for the E and F model. I field approval would be required. Has someone installed one on a J model. Should I consider a different altenator?

Thanks

J models already have alternators with decent regulation systems.   Is there a reason to not use the approved parts?

Also, just be careful if this is related to your previous electrical issue you posted about.  Throwing in a new alternator and vr might solve it but it’s not guaranteed without some reasonable troubleshooting.  I’ve proved it (and have the new alternator and vr to show for it)!

Curt, I think you mean PlanePower?  If so, I'm pretty sure there is an approved unit as I have one installed (by Top Gun) when my alternator was dying and I didn't think they did a field approval.  I have a Zeftronics VR15300 regulator that was also installed at another time.  They have both worked flawlessly for many years now.  Adam
