icurnmedic Posted June 14, 2022 Report Posted June 14, 2022 I am sure it has been discussed , but I can't seem to locate the threads. I am wanting a Radio to listen to traffic in my hanger, does anyone have any suggestions? Hopefully relatively inexpensive, but of course everything is relative LOL. Thanks in advance. Thomas Quote
Unit74 Posted June 14, 2022 Report Posted June 14, 2022 Cheap, garage sale scanner aught to do juuuust fine. They are cheap. You can also fab up a home brew antenna on a mag mount to get good reception whilst the bonnet is closed. That’s what I’d do if economy was a primary factor. Quote
EricJ Posted June 14, 2022 Report Posted June 14, 2022 (edited) Search "air band receiver" on Amazon or somewhere. There are a bunch of nice ones these days that also have AM/FM/etc and are decent. I have one like the link below (not exact brand, but same thing), and it's been great. Shuts itself off after about three hours, runs off a USB plug, and is plenty loud and good enough sound quality for the hangar musak, even though it's not very big. Does air band fine, too, but I usually leave it on FM unless I'm specifically needing it for an ELT check or something. https://www.amazon.com/RADIWOW-Shortwave-Portable-Operated-Memories/dp/B08HCYYW88 Edited June 14, 2022 by EricJ Quote

Pinecone Posted June 15, 2022 Report Posted June 15, 2022 That was my thought. Use my hand held, and it is there when I get ready to go fly. Quote
