shawnd Posted March 20, 2022 Report Posted March 20, 2022 Does anyone know if there's 3d models and animation of Continental engines as show in this video? Pretty fascinating! @M20Doc something you might know of? Shawn 1 Quote
carusoam Posted March 20, 2022 Report Posted March 20, 2022 Shawn, Is that not a Continental six cylinder engine? -a- Quote
shawnd Posted March 20, 2022 Author Report Posted March 20, 2022 Yeah but I want to be able to interact with the model :-) Quote
carusoam Posted March 20, 2022 Report Posted March 20, 2022 See if you can contact Josselin through the YouTube channel… I have had really good contact with the content generators through there… Depending on the software he used to generate it… there may be some interaction to go with it… What are you looking to do? Best regards, -a- Quote
Guest Posted March 20, 2022 Report Posted March 20, 2022 Hard to tell the exact model, but it is a turbocharged Continental. Clarence Quote
shawnd Posted March 20, 2022 Author Report Posted March 20, 2022 @carusoam mostly for self education and also for nephew / niece. The details are impressive compared to the standard engine videos on YouTube. Also, good idea on reaching out to the channel owner. 1 Quote
carusoam Posted March 21, 2022 Report Posted March 21, 2022 The presentation moves at a very high pace… YT has some interesting buttons to help slow it down, to keep it from whizzing by… YT is a Google product at heart… lots of capabilities… that are almost self explanatory… if you look hard enough…. To get better ideas of how… Fuel flows into the engine Air flows into the engine oil flows through the engine… including the heat exchange of the oil cooler… How air cooling flows work… There may be more informative videos from a mechanic’s school… or something of that nature…. There were some interesting oil flow videos for TCs posted around here somewhere…. Possibly Savvy related… See if Mike Busch has anything like that… https://www.savvyaviation.com/about-us/ Of course… inviting @kortopates would be a good idea when discussing engines and training young kids… especially turbo’d Continental engines… +1 for putting in the effort to expose nieces and nephews to aviation engines! The oil pan on that engine is monsterous in depth compared to my IO550… Best regards, -a- Quote
EricJ Posted March 21, 2022 Report Posted March 21, 2022 (edited) I don't know where the Continental engine model came from, but UND did a "virtual magneto" trainer that is quite good and shows pretty much all the detailed workings of a Slick magneto. You can download and run it on a PC. Scroll down a bit on this page: https://aero.und.edu/aviation/current-students/trainers.html Edited March 21, 2022 by EricJ Quote
aviatoreb Posted March 21, 2022 Report Posted March 21, 2022 Wow - what a cool video! So many little parts. How convenient that every time they need a part for the build in the video - it just pops into existence, often 6 of them, and perfectly lined up ready to insert where it needs to go - and that way an entire overhaul rebuild takes only 6 minutes! Yup. I think it's a school, so if it's like the A&P school I went to, you take it apart, inspect and measure the crap out of everything, and then put all the same parts back together with a few new gaskets. That said, it was a ton of fun. The animation is cool, too. Edited March 21, 2022 by EricJ 1 Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted March 21, 2022 Report Posted March 21, 2022 Is it just me or did they screw the spark plugs counterclockwise? 1 Quote

Wondered briefly if it was a frame rate issue or if it was really going backwards… Either way, the rate of rotation didn’t match the speed the plug was going in… Could be a left handed course screw thread… Best regards, -a- 1 Quote
