glenn reynolds Posted February 7, 2022 Report Posted February 7, 2022 I am replacing my io550 on my ovation and need to remove the old spark plug leads, three of which are through a too small hole in the baffle. The spark plug nut seems to preclude removal of the plug end. Do the wire come out of the mag?
carusoam Posted February 7, 2022 Report Posted February 7, 2022 Glen, got a pic? We can always ask @GEE-BEE AEROPRODUCTS he is pretty familiar with IO550 baffles… -a-
N201MKTurbo Posted February 7, 2022 Report Posted February 7, 2022 In most cases, you can push the nut back from the end of the lead then the nut and wire can be pushed through the hole sideways.
A64Pilot Posted February 7, 2022 Report Posted February 7, 2022 On some but I don’t believe all leads the end can be removed. I have replaced an end on my Maule I believe on some but not all, individual leads can be replaced, meaning of course they can be removed from the cap, but I’ve not done that, so be sure before you do anything. Maybe a task best paying someone to do?
A64Pilot Posted February 8, 2022 Report Posted February 8, 2022 If you remove the grommet from the baffle, then work the lead through the grommet, can the lead then fit through the hole with no grommet?
glenn reynolds Posted February 8, 2022 Author Report Posted February 8, 2022 The grommet is removed in this picture and it's all about the spark plug nut unless the other end can be taken out of the magneto cap?
glenn reynolds Posted February 8, 2022 Author Report Posted February 8, 2022 sorry, I seem to be having trouble on getting the images to upload.

glenn reynolds Posted February 16, 2022 Author Report Posted February 16, 2022 We can close this out. I simply needed to turn the spark plugs 90 degrees and then wiggle. It's not an easy removal but it is possible. Thanks for the help guys. 1
carusoam Posted February 16, 2022 Report Posted February 16, 2022 Great follow-up Glenn! Best regards, -a-
