Rick7576 Posted December 7, 2021 Report Posted December 7, 2021 I will be in the Ft. Myers area around the end of the year for 3-6 days. Looking for any advice on where to tie down for a few days. Also will be renting a car. Will be visiting friends between Marco Is. (KMKY) and Punta Gorda (KPGD). So any airport in this general area will work. Any recommendations or advice will be helpful. Cheers Quote
WilliamR Posted December 7, 2021 Report Posted December 7, 2021 Why not split the difference and use KFMY? I've found Base Ops to have very good service and very reasonable prices. Just looked; SS fuel is $4.50! I paid more for that for my car yesterday. The only thing with Base Ops is don't use their website to reserve things like cars, etc. They never look at it. Other than that, top quality service. Rental car office is in the FBO, too. William Quote
lotsofgadgets Posted December 7, 2021 Report Posted December 7, 2021 I second FMY if you are splitting time between Marco and Punta Gorda. FMY (Page Field) is smack in the middle of Ft. Myers with easy access to everything. If you try to save a few buck by going out to Arcadia (X06), Labelle (X14) or Immokalee (IMM) you will spend a bunch of time driving instead of enjoying the stay. They have self serve on the field, or you can fly out to Arcadia for Taco Tuesday, gas was $4.10 today. Quote
FloridaMan Posted December 7, 2021 Report Posted December 7, 2021 KFMY is the most GA friendly airport in Florida. Last time I checked, you could park for free for three days if you took fuel, then it was like $10/day. Quote
Bunti Posted December 7, 2021 Report Posted December 7, 2021 FMY is a great airport. Nice FBO with reasonable fuel prices. Very friendly people. Also courtesy cars available. During the last months, I found it very difficult to get reasonable rental car rates at several airports all over the country. If I remember right, FMY has one rental car agency with an office at the FBO. It changed ownership not too long ago. Punta Gorda has scheduled airline traffic and several major car rental companies at the terminal which is next door to the FBO. Sometimes, I found a good rate online. Also at one airport, the FBO had a much better rate than online. During these days, I strongly recommend checking the rental car prices and make a confirmed rental car reservation before you fly. Rental cars are still limited and sometimes very expensive or not available at all. Quote

Bob Posted December 8, 2021 Report Posted December 8, 2021 I plan to arrive KFMY 12/26 and depart 1/02 for our visit to Cape Coral. I talked the FBO last week. 3 days free with 10 gallons, then $5 or $10 per day. The best current car deal is thru Hertz, located 1 mile north of the field. Everyone was $1000 plus for a week and Hertz is $540. They don't have an agreement with the FBO, but will drop the car before since I arrive on Sunday. My brother has a place in Cape Coral and said Punta Gorda is a good option for reasonable rental car prices as well. A few years ago, we landed Marco and it was great, but very, very busy between Christmas & New Years. Enjoy your trip! Quote
