There will be no video, only a stopwatch. not only should you open the cabin door in preparation for an off-field landing, it’s also important to close the latch and wedge a coat or blanket ibetween the door and frame to lessen the likelihood that it closes up on you. -dan I for one think you should video it and post it here so we can all learn! 1 Quote

Something everyone should do so they understand what it takes is to practice egress on the ground using the baggage hatch. If your over 20, it wont be that fun. If you have just landed in a beanfield and upside down with broken ribs, next to impossible. It will be a human effort if you are injured at all to get out thru the cabin door, so MAKE SURE it is open before you land anywhere but an airport so it is not jammed shut. This one simple thing probably saved my life in 2014. I was unconscious, but someone knew right away were to to pull my busted up carcass out of a plane on fire. I am sure everyone who has been injured can concur here @mooneygirl @DanM20C The unpredictability of crash dynamics makes planning for one difficult, but little things that can improve your odds are often a good idea, like enabling the hatch to be a second exit if it isn't already. That second exit can be a valuable utility even if it isn't easy to use it and it takes time. I'm recalling the 201 that crashed and wound up with a tree lodged against the door, making it unusable as an exit. I have a 201 that did not have an interior hatch release, and while it may be difficult and a bit time consuming to go out that way, having it as an option is no-brainer to me. I was a spelunker for many years, so climbing around in the cabin is pretty spacious for maneuvering in comparison, but everybody needs to assess their own capabilities. Quote

I demonstrate this for new passengers, how to pop the door open and re-engage the latch, and then show that the door won't close with it like that. 1 Quote

The rear seat backs with the headrests installed are fairly tall, but there s ample room between them. so, the verdict: easy, quick and utterly undignified. -dan Edited November 7, 2021 by exM20K 2 Quote
Yetti Posted November 9, 2021 Report Posted November 9, 2021 For the center punch to be effective it is supposed to be used in a corner of the window. They make saws or a standard battery sawzall will work for the laminated glass. https://www.allhandsfire.com/Glass-Master Quote
