jamesm Posted November 17, 2021 Report Posted November 17, 2021 I do. If the system(s) that are being worked on are flight critical ( flight controls or engine controls ) I usually will get a second opinion or second set of eyes on my work. I try to review any possible potential worse case scenarios and then prepare for it. James '67C 1
DXB Posted November 17, 2021 Report Posted November 17, 2021 The pilot-A&P is definitely a special kind of resource - the dual background creates efficiencies in communication and troubleshooting. Luckily, there seem to be lots of them out there, including in the Mooney world. I've been lucky enough to have at least 4 such individuals work on my plane in the last 7 years of ownership. The fact that my A&P has ample Mooney hours and flew my plane back to me personally after major engine work at last annual does add some confidence and trust. Also, it should be a standard expectation that the person doing the work will join you on a post maintenance shakeout flight upon request (getting paid for their time of course). I've only gotten a "I don't have time" once - I won't use that person again.

Even when I used msc’s for maintenance on the rare occasion they had to test fly it they hired (at my expense) a cfi. I’ve seen policies here that would cover a maintainer for a test flight after maintenance, but not casual flying such as delivery, still others that included delivery, but not casual flying. Clarence

James '67C That’s a good policy, in Canada an independent check of flight or powerplant controls is required after any maintenance affecting them. If further disqualifies the independent inspection if they participated in the assembly, all to avoid bias. Clarence
