moonlighting7 Posted January 1, 2021 Report Posted January 1, 2021 Flying m20e Aspen 1000 efd GTX 345 430W Stec 60 During an ILS a GS tape is present. Shooting RNAV... No tape. Anyone? Quote
skykrawler Posted January 1, 2021 Report Posted January 1, 2021 So... M20E is not useful info. When you fly an RNAV - must have LPV or LNAV with vertical 'advice' - does the autopilot couple to the VNAV guidance? Normally the 430W switches the analog loc/gs outputs from radio to GPS based with LOC/GPS selection, right? Check your 430W setup. From EFD1000 install manual: GNS-430/530(W) & GPS-400/500(W) MAIN ARINC 429 CONFIG Page IN 1 LOW Honeywell EFIS (when using pins 48/49) or EFIS or EFIS/ADC* IN 2 As required OUT LOW(2) GAMA 429 Graphics w/INTSDI See Note 1 VNAV ENABLE LABELS (W models only) VOR/LOC/GS ARINC 429 CONFIG Page SPEED LOW(2) RX LOW(2) TX SDI COMMON * Note – Some GPS units require the EFIS config. ACU2 installs can use the EFIS/ADC config. Quote
Cruiser Posted January 1, 2021 Report Posted January 1, 2021 You don't say if this worked before and quit or if it never worked ... Is it a new installation? Quote
Marauder Posted January 1, 2021 Report Posted January 1, 2021 Flying m20e Aspen 1000 efd GTX 345 430W Stec 60 During an ILS a GS tape is present. Shooting RNAV... No tape. Anyone? I have the Aspen 2000, GTN-650 and STEC 60-2. You didn't provide us much context, so I can't tell if you are dealing with a new installation or an old installation with a new problem. I am going to assume this is a new installation, that it was done correctly and you are learning the new hardware. 1) If you have the 430's CDI set to LOC, you will need to make sure it is switched to GPS. 2) If step one is correct, make sure the Aspen is set to GPS. The center button cycles between the various nav signals. See picture below. 3) If you have it set to a valid GPS signal and have an RNAV approach loaded, verify on the GPS that you are seeing either an LPV or LNAV/VNAV. You won't get a glideslope with the other approaches. 1 Quote
moonlighting7 Posted January 3, 2021 Author Report Posted January 3, 2021 My 430 indicates LPV with Gps in lower left corner. GPS shown on center button of Aspen as signal received. This is older install but doing training now and instructor was confused as well. Thought I'd ask before sending in to AV shop Quote
PT20J Posted January 3, 2021 Report Posted January 3, 2021 Could be a configuration issue. Originally, Nav receivers activated a signal to enable the GS only when a localizer freq was tuned. A combined GPS/VHF Nav navigator has to be configured properly to activate the GS enable for GPS approaches with vertical guidance as well as ILS. Any competent avionics shop should be able to sort it out. Make sure they check that the autopilot will capture the GS for both GPS and ILS too. Skip Quote
moonlighting7 Posted January 3, 2021 Author Report Posted January 3, 2021 That sounds about right. THANK YOU! Quote
