Ross Taylor Posted May 16, 2020 Report Posted May 16, 2020 It's time to match the profiles. Our '66 E has a rounded panel but a squared/angled glareshield. I was recently PMing with another MSer with the same mismatch on his E. Which is the original shape? And why does it seem this mismatch is common - are rounded glareshields not available? If I were to search for a glareshield with the rounded contour, to match my panel, what model Mooney should I be searching under? IOW, would J Mooney glareshields (just for example) match the rounded profile? I had planned to make one, but with the restaurant reopening that project's sidelined for a while... Quote
ArtVandelay Posted May 16, 2020 Report Posted May 16, 2020 The hump I think means it’s from a later model, there is a couple of salvage parts suppliers on this board, maybe they have a original glareshield. 1 Quote
Guest Posted May 16, 2020 Report Posted May 16, 2020 What about an Ashby glareshield from Spruce? Clarence Quote
ArtVandelay Posted May 16, 2020 Report Posted May 16, 2020 What about an Ashby glareshield from Spruce? Clarence Their review on the Mooney glareshield is less than stellar. Sounds like you will need to modify it. 1 Quote
RLCarter Posted May 16, 2020 Report Posted May 16, 2020 Hard to tell from your pix but I have seen the newer style shield installed on the rounded panel but they also had the 201 windshield and it was trimmed to fit much better 1 Quote

Clarence Thanks Doc - that's a helpful pointer and I'd missed that option. The one Mooney version they have is rounded, more like my panel, and indicates its for a 201. So, can I infer from this that the angled/squared off glareshield I have is the original panel shape for our M20E and if was modified to "201 shape"? That helps and at least I can narrow my search to 201 glareshields. Are panels 201-and-later all the same profile? Now we're in the "Modern Mooney" arena and I know even less about those... Quote

The shape seems to be a cross between the original and the 201. Hmmmm Quote

Do not assume the picture matches the model you are ordering. 1 Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted May 16, 2020 Report Posted May 16, 2020 Your panel shape looks just like mine. It looks like you have the stock windshield. I have an Ashby glare shield. It makes a good base to build a good glare shield. Like all things Aviation I had to trim it to fit. If you get one, you will have to shorten it quite a bit. You will have to make your own pocket for the lighting. When you get it the way you want it, take it to a good upholsterer and cover it with vinyl or leather. I made the lighting pocket out of upholstery foam. The only challenge I’ve had is finding adhesive that will not melt in the Arizona heat. 1 Quote
R-Banger Posted May 16, 2020 Report Posted May 16, 2020 Sorry to hijack, how did you get the PTT on the pass side yoke?! Quote

Any thread that sparks other questions is a good one. And, I hate to say...I don't know. We bought her a little over a year ago and that PTT was already there. The PO did some nice things. Quote

I have been mulling that over, but don't want to spend the coin to change out the whole yoke system. Quote
Ross Taylor Posted May 17, 2020 Author Report Posted May 17, 2020 @R-Banger the next time I'm out at the hangar, I'll investigate that and report back. Quote
