So this is odd. During my overhaul I located a lycoming oil filter adapter to replace the oil screen on my O-360. Without checking, I ordered the standard Champion 48110-1 filters only to find that the oil filter adapter and the filter itself both have male threaded ends. Does anyone know if the little nipple in the adapter spins out? Thanks in advance. f94dbb2d9931208dd125d2f3f34e410e.jpg

It will unscrew with a pair of pliers.  Someone has either been using the wrong filter on it or it’s really old and used to use the old AC Delco OF 51 filter.

Thank you sir. I figured as much. It came off an O320 engine that was on a Citabria.

You got the wrong filter, a CH48108-1 will fit right on there.

So should I unscrew the fitting and use my filters or keep the fitting and get new filters? Inquiring minds want to know..

Champion lists all Mooney’s with 48110 except for the K-252 model it lists the 48108.

48110 & 48111 filters fit Lycoming engines with separate magnetos, 48103 & 48104 filters fit Lycoming engines with the D3000 magnetos, 48108 & 48109 fit Continental engine.

Use the filter approved for your engine.

You have the adapter for an o-320.  You need an adapter for the o-360 or you will need to use the 48103 filters.  I think if you pull the nipple out you will find the filter still will not fit.  Not sure of that but I think it is different threads.

O-320 and O-360 use the same part. Almost everything between those models are interchangeable. Including cases.

That depends on which o-320 you have and which o-360 you have.  The accessory cases are very different....
