DF's M20J Posted February 10, 2020 Report Posted February 10, 2020 1978 M20J is down for annual inspection and up on jacks. Cycled flaps down won’t retract up CB not popped. Seems froze what's next? Quote
kommers Posted February 10, 2020 Report Posted February 10, 2020 typically, the limit switches or the motor itself. I had this issue for about two years in my 1978, my mechanic kept cleaning the switches, but after a few flights, flaps would not retract or extend, or both. Finally, he replaced the flap motor and this was the solution Quote
ArtVandelay Posted February 10, 2020 Report Posted February 10, 2020 Limit switches or flap switch itself. A few minutes with a multimeter will tell you which. Quote
Yetti Posted February 10, 2020 Report Posted February 10, 2020 Contact cleaner on the limit switches. Wash them out and exercise them. 1 Quote
EricJ Posted February 10, 2020 Report Posted February 10, 2020 Most likely a stuck/dirty or inop limit switch. Just takes removing a small belly panel to get at them. Spraying contact cleaner on them might fix it, else potentially a readjustment or replacement of the switch. Quote
DF's M20J Posted February 12, 2020 Author Report Posted February 12, 2020 Thanks to all who offered me advise. About 60 min after the problem and lunch reached in turned on the master flipped the flap switch and up they retracted. I’ll have the contacts cleaned too. Thanks 1 Quote
bradp Posted February 20, 2020 Report Posted February 20, 2020 Clean the contacts too. Then make sure the problem doesn’t reproduce itself. Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted February 20, 2020 Report Posted February 20, 2020 You don't see these on Ebay very often. https://www.ebay.com/itm/223710103485 Super deal brand new! 1 Quote
kajo Posted February 22, 2020 Report Posted February 22, 2020 I had this issue while flying with my CFI about 3 years ago. The flap is stuck at 30 degree position. We flew another pattern, landed, and while taxing toggled the circuit breaker and it started to work again. Now issues after that so far (about 250 hours). We did not do any kind of repairs. Quote
